James Doohan

Recommended Posts

I've always thought it's a wonder that only one Star Trek star has passed away so far.

The future isn't looking too bright for Doohan and if he survives this year, he won't survive the next.

"You cannot change the laws of physics Jim".

More like 'You cannae change the laws of biology, Jim'

Surprisingly, Doohan isn't even Scottish.

Er, surprising to whom, exactly? Not to any people of Scottish extraction, I suspect!

I am glad he and Bill the Shat have patched up their differences. Life's too short, ay? (As those two Canadians might have put it...)

Ha ha ha , why do american actors insist on making prats of themselves with dodgy european accents ?

Dunno--and that Canadian-born James Doohan fellow isn't much better either.

Intereshting to note that we Shcots are also occasionally critishised for our foreign acshentsh.

Inshidentally, as a small child growing up in Aberdeen in the early 70's I just assumed Scotty talked a bit strangely because he was probably from somewhere in the west of Scotland.

Many canadians can do a passable Scottish accent, if they are, unlike Doohan, of Scottish descent.

Mr. Doohan is doing better thanks to his upped daily intake of dilithium crystals.

Too many though and his engine may blow. Any volunteers to head up the Jeffrey's tube and check out the core?

There's no such thing as too much Trek knowledge.

I must say that ST: TOS is the one I know the least about.

I believe somebody told me the other day that alot of people who wind up with alzheimers also end up with Parkinsons disease and alot of times contract Pneumonia...don't know what correlation these might have with each other, but if that does'nt "Beam Up" Mr. Scott, it'll sure put him in the reaper's crosshairs <_<

Yes.

Among others (from the original, the REAL Star Trek series) we have Leonard Nimoy(Spock) born in Mrch 1931, Nichelle Nichols (Uhura) born in December 1932, Walter Koenig(Chekov) born in September 1936, George Takei(Sulu) born April 1937, Majel Barrett--Mrs. Gene Roddenberry herself(Christine Chapel and other parts, including the voice of the computer in later series) born February 1932.

Rather than list them all let me send you off into a series of links which can better serve your to provide results in your quest.

In other words, they're not actually very old (by health-care-pampered wealthy Western celeb standards) so not awfully likely to peg out soon...

More interesting might be how many of the original Mercury/Gemini/Apollo astronauts are still around - a few of them must be mid/late 70's by now. Does anyone know of a relevant link?

Maybe this should be thread on 2006 names?

Here's the link....

Of the Mercury's:

Gus Grissom was killed in the Apollo fire

Alan Shepherd died in 1997

Deke Slayton died in 1993

Leroy Gordon Cooper died in 2004

John Glenn, Scott Carpenter and Waler Schirra seem to be the only 3 survivors of the original 7

In a slightly expurgated version.

Anyone not remember that unsightly rash of captains we had a few months back?

Ouch.

The Dutch judge gives double points for both a bad pun and the subject.
