On Ancestry, James Marvin Troxel's records state that he was married in Phoenix, Arizona in the 1950s. This page mentions Jimmy Troxel was with Duane Eddy's lot in Phoenix... in the 1950s. And the comment from 4 years ago also mentions that he's dead. We got there! Updated the section. So only saxophonist Jim Horn (b. 1940) and Duane Eddy himself (b. 1938) are still around. YoungWillz 21,062 Posted July 24, 2020 The Four Esquires. I found this: https://worldradiohistory.com/Archive-Billboard/50s/1959/Billboard 1959-05-25-Programming.pdf indicating that all the boys were in their 20s in 1959, and that Bob Colligan's home town is listed as York Harbor, Maine. I have a feeling there might be a few Colligans from Maine, but which of them spent some years at Boston Uni, Boston, Mass? Interesting that Wiki states they were signed in 1956, but they were certainly releasing records according to Billboard as early as the start of 1955, probably while they were still at University. Interesting that Wiki states they were signed in 1956, but they were certainly releasing records according to Billboard as early as the start of 1955, probably while they were still at University. Couldn't find Bob Colligan on Ancestry, at all. Then found this promo, which gives his DOB. It's pixelated but I make out 25th Sep 1931 in Peabody, Massachusetts. What do you see? Anyway, punch this into Ancestry and still nothing. I've added it in for now though. This image has opened a whooooole new can of worms though. So Bob Colligan done. Let's look at Wally Gold – no problems. The image says he was born in Brooklyn, New York on Jul 12, 1928 and the descrip at the side says deceased. That matches the info we have. Next, Frank Mahoney (or Fran Mahoney as the typo in the promo refers to him as). Lots of online sources (albeit none of them solid) state that this guy died in 2007. I used this page for the date of death of 25th Jul 2007. The page gives his year of birth as 1920. I found the corresponding Francis Mahoney who died on that date in 2007 on Ancestry. Says he was born 25th May 1919. Internet says he was a WWII interpreter. Makes sense, as age would check out. So the problem is that the above promo image says he was born (again squinting my eyes) Jul 12 1928 in Boston Massachusetts. Now, this would make more sense as it's in line with the ages of the rest of the group. But where does the WWII interpreter stuff come from (if he was born 1928, he'd have been a very young WWII interpreter – 16 by the point the war ended!). So I can't find Mahoney on Ancestry under the DOB Jul 12 1928 so now I'm even more confused. Is he even dead? Possibly (the seller of that item seems to think so but maybe they were going off of Wikipedia). Did he die in 2007? Maybe. OR perhaps somebody had him confused with another Frank/Francis Mahoney and he in fact died in another place and time. Anyway, very very confused now. Annoying as the research we're doing is flawless as far as our method goes. It's just that there is so much nonsense written on the Internet! Second problem.... Bill Courtney. It says he was born 02 April 19?? (can't make it out) in Boston Massachusetts. This one the promo definitely has wrong. In this interview he states he was born in Portland, Maine and that his family moved to Boston, Massachusetts later. Says his father was a shipping commissioner. I found him under his real name of William Leo O'Brien (but on the death certificate it says aka Bill Courtney), the record states born in Portland, Maine, lists the father's profession as a shipping commissioner, residence Medford Massachusetts etc. It's definitely the right guy I found, but his death certificate says born 26 Jan 1926, not 02 Apr. I'm less bothered about the second one. It's all cross verified and I'd rather trust his word of mouth and the death records vs. a promotional bio. But Mahoney is fucked up and I don't know what to do with it now?
