Although not her first film role, she came to prominence as Kate in the 1980 film Breaking Glass, performing her own compositions, several of which were released as singles, with the soundtrack album achieving 'gold disc' status reaching number 5 in the chart. In January 2022, she was discovered unconscious at her home in France, after suffering a brain haemorrhage. She continues to recover.

Famously, he was the bassist on Lou Reed's the Walk on Wild Side, and wrote Clive Dunn's Grandad, and less famously also lived near me at one time.
