His first major role was in the 70s sitcom Laverne & Shirley, as neighbour Lenny Kosnowski, with his friend Squiggy, played by David Lander, characters they had devised while at University. He achieved lasting cult status with his portrayal of David St. Hubbins in the film This is Spinal Tap. More recently he was seen as Chuck McGill, the reclusive brother of the eponymous Saul Goodman, in Better Call Saul, for which he received an Emmy nomination. Musically, he was briefly a member of The Left Banke, and recorded an album as Lennny and the Squigtones (featuring Nigel Tufnel).
