They're a resilient bunch and I genuinely could see most of them lasting even longer. None of them are in a Derek Draper situation where things have been drastically getting worse and worse before finally reaching a peak a week before death, a lot of their conditions have been stable (critically or not) or without update for months to years. This is the point I am trying to make. Looking frail but having no severe health issues is not the death sentence that people think it is. I meet a lot of elderly people through social activities. I know a lady who is 93 who has looked like a gust of wind would take her out for years, but medically she's absolutely fine, hasn't visibly declined much in the past decade and I can well imagine she'll rumble on for some years yet because her health is stable. Similarly, I've seen plenty of people who were younger by a decade or more and looked much better die of severe health problems that they had. Old, frail, and stable beats younger, better externally, but suffering with health problems.

What I was saying earlier is just that fame should be taken into consideration. I would loose all interest in deathlist if people like Jonnie Irwin, Theo Burrell, Tim BIlton and others were to be included over legends like Aldrin, Eastwood, Castro… There's a crosspoint to find between fame and health status.

If you're including people like him then surely Jonnie Irwin isn't a stretch.

Mahathir, Nujoma, Silvio Santos, Abdullah the Butcher, LK Advani, Arlindo Cruz. Always routine chek-ups for everyone, despite the fact they are in their 130s or have been ill for decades. I think there's been far more of those "miraculous"/suprising recoveries recently than usually. Searching a few threads, there's, in addition to those already mentioned: Kaiti Grey, Kitanofuji Katsuaki, Alexander Mitta, Khandaker Mosharraf Hossain, Vidya Stokes, Sujata, Cecchi Gori, Mongo McMichael, Susana Baca, Kristoffer Olsson (very young, a suprising and welcome recovery), Silvia Pinal, Manolis Mavrommatis, Javier Batiz, Frank Caprio ("survived" pancan), Harald V, Nelson Acosta, Pratibha Patil, Yaakov Moshe Hillel, Yuriko Princess Mikasa, JRP Suriyapperuma, George Vassiliou, Milos Zeman, Mark Coleman, Braulio Musso, Faustao, Lanny McDonald, Red Farmer, Pedro Sarmiento, footballer Zurdo, La Mona Jiménez, John Force, Durai Murugan, Zack Orji, Ivan Krasko, William Mebarak Chadid, SM Krishna, Alfio Basile, Camillo Ruini and many others. Then there's the ones I'm not 100% sure are out of the woods yet: Ghulam Mustafa Khar, KM Shafiullah, Rabee al-Madkhali, Dilon Djindji . Lots of names for future pools. Two great symbols of this boring year: The forementioned Swami who looks more like a rotten lump of meat than a human yet has during the last months survived ailments that would have killed five average Joes, and that nearly 100-year-old very frail Pakistani politician who was reported dead early this year somewhere on the forums but mysteriously resurrected after a few days.
drol 12,126 Posted August 2 Exactly. Even relatively minor names who seem utterly fucked (see KM Shafiullah) seem to recover unexplicably. SM Krishna bounced back from being very critical and on life support. From 2023 I still wonder how is it possible Saalumarada Thimmakka and Shmuel Kamenetsky are stil alive. They both had a period of massive hospitalizations and are in their late 90s with a long history of ill health.

I say he's one bad bout of pneumonia away from punching Benny in the balls again. 3. Cleo Laine. Very old and BBC and Sky Arts have ran tribute nights in recent months, maybe they know something. 4. Chomsky. Frail, survived bunch of strokes, when not if in near future. 5. Robert Wagner - has COPD and id haunted by a vengeful ghost 6. Starmer Smith. Bedridden for years and been near death since 2022. 7. James Whale. Moody bugger with slow terminal cancer but you can't outrun prognosis forever. 8. Joanne Woodward. End stage dementia since forever. 9. Le Pen. Meant to be very frail. Not enough for my liking. 10. Denis Law. Very ill and quiet. And I forgot about him for Scavengers. 11. Hans Blix. Said to be in poor health 12. Tom Brokaw. Severe cancer last year, unusually quiet of late? 13. Linda Nolan. See James Whale. 14. Norman Tebbit. Frail and quiet for ages. 15. Willie Nelson. Frail and visibly slowing down. 16. Esther Rantzen. Dying of lung cancer. 17. Roberta Flack. About to approach usual prognosis time for her age group with als. 18. Sly Stone. How is he still alive? Imo around half of them are gone by Hogmanay. Add in 2-3 random old age deaths and that's yer DL 2024. Now watch all of the above live and Dick Van Dyke randomly cark it instead. Very well put @msc. Also Alan Greenspan has been very quiet and how on earth is Sonny Rollins still alive with his pulmonary fibrosis condition?
livingbygrace 419 Posted August 2 Thinking of people with Dementia, I cannot help but think that late last year people were talking about Jack Hanna and how his dementia was getting so bad he was not recognizing his family and all this year I have not seen any real updates about how he is doing. Wonder if he might be a possibility for 2025 List?

These seem the hardest things to kill in the whole world. Tippi Hedren, Joanne Woodward, Gena Rowlands, Gene Hackman. Going on forever. I remembered your post on "tough groups" from back in Dec 2020. "Chinese politicians" was already there, most of the very old/ill Ayatollahs are still alive as well as all the Indian frauds, the only group that has suffered major losses are the NK politicians. Some more "tough" groups that come to mind: 1) Hellraisers/hard living stars. Keith Richards is 80, Ozzy is 75, Iggy Pop is 77, Steven Tyler, Stevie Nicks and Alice Cooper are 76, John McVie is 78, Eric Clapton is 79, Brian Wilson is 82, Grace Slick and Phil Lesh are 84 and Dion DiMucci is 85, and there are many others. Willie Nelson, Sly Stone...Sonny Rollins who was a heroin addict. I'm less suprised by individual cases (however Slick, Keef, Ozzy and the last three are medical miracles) but the fact that so many of them have made it to great ages is very impressive. 2) Cardinals of the Roman Catholic Church. There's been two deaths in the ten oldest cardinals in the last two years, and all the ones who have died this year have been relatively minor names. Nine of them are over 95 years old and all the four oldest (do Nascimento 1925-2024, Karlic, Wamala, Dri) have been or are in very poor health. Ruini, Sandoval Íñiguez, Darmaatmadja and many others of the younger ones have also been ill for years. 3) Elderly olympic gold medalists. To name some, George Rhoden 1926-2024 has been ailing for around ten years, Dick Button has suffered two or three major brain injuries, infections and other ailments and has been quiet for years now, Leon Rotman has dementia, long jumper Greg Bell suffers from severe heart problems, Larisa Latynina had a stroke and a heart attack a few years ago and Salvatore Gionta is very frail. From the paralympics, Aroldo Ruschioni of the initial Paralympics is very old. I also find the longevity with some of the boxers, wrestlers and weightlifters impressive. Rudolf Plyukfelder (who either has a heart defect or heart problems from physical stress, but has suffered from some type of heart failure since he was 18), Ján Zachara and Emam Ali Habibi are all in their mid-90s. 3

Steve 640 Posted October 5 I say without doubt bring back Liza Minnelli, Yoko Ono, Douglas Hurd and David Attenborough back onto next years list and add the likes of Tippi Hedren, Julie Goodyear, Jean Marsh, Joan Plowright, Don King, Franki Valli and Sidney Cooke then the 2025 list could be like hitting the casino jackpot especially if the current sick/ elderly frail lingerers stay with us until midnight on New Year's Eve.

Lafaucheuse 4,073 Posted October 10 As I said in the Kennedy thread, here is my opinion (not that anyone cares but…) 7 minutes ago, Lafaucheuse said: if Carter, Chomsky or Woodward die before the year's over, I'd be quite bored and angry. I want 2025 to be a massacre and now that we know this list will end up with a disastrous score anyway, I hope to save the maximum of picks to break a record next year. Them dying so close to the end would feel like a waste honestly. Hence why I wanted Kennedy to pull through. And while we can't break a record for the best, let's break a record for the worst and end up with only 5 hits. That would be ridiculously fun instead of finishing with an average 10 or so

To be fair until her stroke a lot of people to my surprise were overlooking 96 year old Ethel Kennedy- you weren't the only one guilty of that! I was only saying to someone in a private message on here a few days ago (pre stroke announcement)that I think Ethel Kennedy is going under the radar and is a likely bit this year. On this occasion my psychic powers never failed me! Currently my special feelings are telling me that one of the remaining hits of the year will definitely be a woman. Jimmy Carter Chomsky Starmer Smith James Whale One of Le Pen/Laine/Law/Brokaw Tebbit Flack OR Rantzen Think a chunk of those could still go before Hogmanay. Did you see that Brighton Bombing doc on the Beeb? No Tebbit whatsoever. imo, if Norman Tebbit isn't available to bemoan the IRA, then he really must be circling the drain!

Interesting about Cleo Laine- could signify something as you hint The only female that I am confident is safe or the safest is Prunella Scales. She seems too active for anything imminent to be likely. Joanne Woodwards continued longevity really surprises me . I would be quite shocked if she's still alive in a year but then again I think it's possible that three women, Ethel, Cleo and Joanne could help to 'save 'the official DeathList this year. Good observation on Lord Tebbit but no I haven't watched that documentary yet. It will have to wait until I've watched the Elizabeth Taylor documentary on Iplayer as well as the last episode of drama series The Tourist first series and the first episode of the new series of Industry- said to be raunchier than ever with lots of shagging so no doubt I will be hooked!! PS Alan Greenspan is another one I am getting a strong Ethel Kennedy like feeling is being massively overlooked...
