jmh8300 2 Posted December 27, 2009 Cricketer Basil D'Oliveira is now suffering from Alzheimer's disease says the Wikipedia. His "DDP scouting report" changes from being a bold pick to now a very obvious one. Alzheimer's + Parkinsons = Not a very good combination. Indeed, not a pleasant combination, but perhaps the previous diagnosis of Parkinson's was a mis-diagnosis of his now fully developed Alzheimer's. The poor chap has been in a home since 2005, according to the BBC article about his CBE, and so is now 78. I dithered last year about his inclusion, but the yorker of fate has hit my middle stump of destiny and he's made the team! Howzat?

Just a thought, like, are there people in that home old enough to have been unthinking racists, opposed to the immigration of people like D'Oliveria into this country? Probably so. Doubtless the presence of this minor historical figure amongst them amuses the multi-racial staff, including those on temporary work permits, as they go about their duties. angryGreatness 96 Posted November 19, 2011 (edited) Ruby Muhammad, Osama bin Laden, Seve Ballesteros, Dr. Kevorkian, Sir Jimmy Savile, and now Basil D'Oliveira. Granted Muhammad didn't get a obit, but it's a bad sign when our hits are equaling our misses. EDIT: The day I get corrected by a damn guest poster...
