Boudicca 702 Posted July 2, 2005 I was wondering about the relevance of this myself. Is it something to do with the "Make Poverty History" slogan? Nice idea, if a tad ambitious. Call me cynical, but I can't see "Poverty" making the DeathList anytime soon. It isn't famous enough, for a start. "Make Victoria Beckham History" would be a much better plan. Rotten Ali 600 Posted July 2, 2005 Thing is too many of us waste the odd half an hour or so each day checking which famous person has died each day (most usually 1 very old b-list westerner of natural causes) Put this against the 5,000 people who die each day in Africa of totally preventable conditions and you have the dilemma that "deadornot" has set up here! Cerberus 304 Posted July 2, 2005 Thing is, not many of us can spend half an hour a day saving the lives of starving people in Africa (BTW, since when was "Poverty" restricted to Africa? Are there no poor people in Asia or South America any more?) I'd love to send some of my disposable income, but the last time I dared to check my bank balance it was £867 overdrawn. I'm watching Pink Floyd at the moment, by the way. I only recognised David Gilmour. Is Roger Waters back for this gig?

football_fan 42 Posted July 2, 2005 Did you see Pete Dohery perform in that duet with Elton John? He looked just plain awful. Looks like all of that heroine use is taking a toll on him Drug-Addled Doherty Fails To Wow Live

Guest Moses Posted July 4, 2005 nelson mandela looked very frail, if you dont put him on next years list your mad, and i am a supporter of the make poverty history campaign but the only thing i am pissed off about is that leftists have hijacked the campaign and are trying to turn it into one of their "bush is evil, america is evil" agendas, socialists, communists and anarchists who were protesting the G8 in scotland do not care about poverty in africa they just want to shove their views on everyone through violence

Guest Moses Posted July 5, 2005 "bush is evil, america is evil" They may possibly have a point there. (In all humility) the cause of african poverty isnt bush or america, bush is too busy creating global warming and tsunamis its the fault of mostly left wing african dictators, why was bob geldof so afraid to mention the dictators of africa
Gunjaman5000 32 Posted July 5, 2005 bush is too busy creating global warming and tsunamis Which Bush are you talking about? I'm not sure wuther it's Kate or George.
Bald rick 9 Posted July 5, 2005 bush is too busy creating global warming and tsunamis He has been accused of many things, but this is the first time I have seen him accused of causing a massive under-sea earthquake. I would be delighted if you could give us some proof that this was in fact the case. It would make earthquake detection a whole lot easier.
The Yeti 14 Posted July 5, 2005 Shhh ... the Government doesn't want you to know That Tesla guy
Tuber Mirum 125 Posted July 5, 2005 Tesla was the guy who invented radio. And the AC electric motor. And the Cheddite Projector. And polyphase AC. Didn't get any recognition for it though, and even today his achievements are suppressed by the Edison and Marconi companies which donate so much money to the Smithsonian and other such learned bodies. This chap up in Michigan seems to have a bit of a bee in his bonnet about the whole thing. Sounds like he was also a dangerous madman if there is any truth in those sites of The Yeti's. Magere Hein 1,400 Posted July 6, 2005 Tesla was the guy who invented radio. Like all successes, radio has many fathers. The principle of radio was demonstrated by Heinrich Hertz in 1888. Tesla was the first to make it a working system, while Guglielmo Marconi made it into a practical system, both for wireless telegraphy and voice transmission. 73 Hein
The Yeti 14 Posted July 6, 2005 Didn't get any recognition for it though The SI unit of magnetic field force is named the Tesla, so at least us physicists have heard of him. And you don't get an SI unit named after you unless your science was worthy of it ... so it makes you wonder about all the other stuff he was meant to have discovered ... Cue The Philadelphia Experiment
Bald rick 9 Posted July 6, 2005 Shhh ... the Government doesn't want you to know That Tesla guy Like I said, if you could show us some PROOF that the tsunami on Boxing Day last year was caused by Bush, I'd be very interested. Conspiracy theories don't count. I'm sure that you can affect things by vibrating them at their resonant frequency, but did it happen here - I think not. Tuber Mirum 125 Posted July 6, 2005 Tesla was the first to make it a working system, while Guglielmo Marconi made it into a practical system, both for wireless telegraphy and voice transmission. If you mean he stuck it in a box with an on/off switch and the word "Marconi" emblazoned on it, then I suppose you are right.
