Guest IYG Posted July 29, 2005 A lot of you know already what a big fan I am of movies. Well, tonight I watched That's Entertainment! (1974), the story of the MGM musicals up to the 1950's. I was looking at the people who appeared either as hosts or in archive footage and the ones still living could be good ones for next year's list. Here they are: Liza Minnelli - born 1946 - Still young though Debbie Reynolds - born 1932 Mickey Rooney - born 1920 Elizabeth Taylor - born 1932 - yes I know she is on the list this year June Allyson - born 1917 Kay Armen - born 1920 Leslie Caron - born 1931 Carleton Carpenter - born 1926 Cyd Charisse - born 1921 Vic Damone - born 1928 Deanna Durbin - born 1921 Kathryn Grayson - born 1922 Lena Horne - born 1917 Van Johnson - born 1916 Louis Jourdan - born 1919 Tony Martin - born 1912 - seems a prime candidate Fayard Nicholas - born 1914 Margaret O'Brien - born 1937 - still rather young Jane Powell - born 1929 Russ Tamblyn - born 1934 Esther Williams - born 1922 Arlene Dahl - born 1928 Gloria DeHaven - born 1925 Betty Garrett - born 1919 Audrey Totter - born 1918 That's Entertainment II: Doris Day - born 1924 Nanette Fabray - born 1920 Marge Champion - born 1919 Betty Hutton - born 1921 Tommy Rall - born 1929 That's Entertainment III: Angela Lansbury - born 1925 Luise Rainer - born 1910 Hmm, seem to have quite a bit here. How about we make the Deathlist have 100 people on it.

Canadian Paul 97 Posted November 17, 2005 This is definetely a list that should be looked into, as a good number of less-than-famous actors cark it every year. Personally, however, I think Liza Minnelli, Debbie Reynolds, Mickey Rooney and Angela Lansbury all have enough juice left in them to get through 2006. Van Johnson was the only one out of all of them that I have for my 2006 DDP, although admittedly I haven't heard of a lot of the older ones.
Windsor 2,235 Posted November 17, 2005 Fellow deathlisters, The return of this thread promted me to remember one of our good friends here at deathlist, namely IYG. The little green thing was not only a moderator but also a friend. Unfortunately he was pursued by what I can only describe as a Nazi like attack which led him to exile himself from this forum. Anyway, I wish IYG a happy belated birthday, where ever he may be. And may the force be with him (and so on and so forth....).

Boudicca 702 Posted November 17, 2005 He deleted a thread called "Need a shoulder to cry on" It was called "Need a shoulder to cry on? Then get down on your knees!" His greatest crime was deleting that. It was a terrific topic title.

Harvester Of Souls 40 Posted November 18, 2005 Does anyone have any information on David Davies? The actor played Mr Arrow in Disney's Treasure Island (1950) was born in 1906. He was doing voice overs for Star Wars cartoons in 2001. The trail has now gone cold. The 3rd April 2006 will be his 100th birthday, if he's not already in Davy Jones Locker... Cowboy Ronnie 78 Posted November 18, 2005 Does anyone have any information on David Davies? Isn't he running for the Tory leadership? Of course, any sensible person would be running from the Tory leadership.
Harvester Of Souls 40 Posted November 18, 2005 Isn't he running for the Tory leadership? I'm not too sure if the same person. If it is he looks remarkably well for his age.
Canadian Paul 97 Posted November 18, 2005 Apparentely, still alive, though he hasn't done anything since the Star Wars Games: http://www.imdb.com/name/nm0203664/ But is he famous enough? If so, here's another I'd like to reccommend (despite her Canadianness): http://www.imdb.com/name/nm0448661/ Come on, we all remember Flash and the Devil from 'round '26! Tempus Fugit 214 Posted November 18, 2005 Barbara Kent has about the same chance of being on the list as Norah Baring(She's got her own DL thread). Slim I'd say.

As the only person from the cast of Treasure Island, still alive, I thought that would be grounds enough. At 99 it's easy money

He has done nothing of note according to his imdb biog. Real second rate rubbish.

Canadian Paul 97 Posted November 19, 2005 Well he was on Coronation Street for a year in '71... wouldn't that combined with his Treasure Island role count for something across the pond? (IE. a UK obit?) Again, not supporting him for candidacy either, just making sure all the facts are on the table.

Lennie Bennett was on Primetime TV for several years, doesn't mean he's suitable for DeathList though.
maryportfuncity 10,684 Posted November 19, 2005 Luise Rainer probably is famous enough, and turns 96 next January. Most of us here don't know her simply because so much of her busy career took place long before we were born.
Canadian Paul 97 Posted November 19, 2005 Luise Rainer probably is famous enough, and turns 96 next January. Most of us here don't know her simply because so much of her busy career took place long before we were born. Perhaps, but she also has zero history for health problems and bodily abuse. If we want to add people purely on the basis of "old," then there's plenty of candidates out there and it's a craps-shoot as to which ones will actually die. maryportfuncity 10,684 Posted November 19, 2005 CP, I take yer points. Thought raising her profile might be useful in terms of prompting a greater authority than IMDB to post some information. Are we sure she's in good health? All I've managed to discover is that she's still alive.

Davis was still working up to 2001 and while he's never been a major role winner he's starred in a fair share of famous titles. I watched his amazing performance in TI again this morning. If he's still alive he's well worthy of a mention. Lennie Bennett's death would be a national disaster.

Are we sure she's in good health? All I've managed to discover is that she's still alive. I did some limited research... I can't find a single article that even mentions her health. She did appear at the 1998 and 2003 Academy Awards ceremoines, but no mention of how she looked. NNDB and IMDB don't list a single health problem, in fact the only mention that I could find about anything suspect was an abortion she had in the late 1930s (according to Wikipedia). Of course, age is age, but that's always the luck of the draw. If we didn't add her and she died on January 1, 2006, it wouldn't have been a poor decision on the part of the council, just pure bad luck. Also, we do have plenty of prime candidates, so old age should be something we consider after other things.
