Is it just me or is the current state of action in our DL top fifty seriously lacking? On the evidence of the forum we haven't run out of wit, intelligence and invention leaving me to conclude that our current crop of DL'ers are the dullest since I joined in 2004. Lacking in public accidents, falls in their own homes, medical emergenies and - frankly - much else by way of entertainment value. Or, am I wrong? Are we under-performing when it comes to posting on the DL?

I don't think it's just this crop that's been a disappointment of late, I think we've hit a celebrity death lull in general. Look at DDP's 'Who's Dead So Far...' page. Only 6 people of 200+ have scored (off 3 hits) in the last month.

It's April, flowers are blooming, but I don't see many daisies because there aren't enough people pushing them up!!

Even the dead pool I'm in where there's $180 up for grabs we've only had 4 hits in as many months and they all died in January & February.

and another one where the prize is $35, we've had just 2 celebs die

I have a feeling that the celebs are growing wise to the number of DPs out there and are doing their best to cling on for as long as possible :)

Aye, points I hadn't considered. It's a crying shame all the loony nurses who administer near-fatal doses just to get a horn on as they wrestle the punters back to life work in the NHS whilst yer average celeb goes private.

Easter was pretty non-eventful, you usually get at least a couple big names to die over the bank hols.

Muriel Spark was about the only big name to die over that weekend

I'm not really surprised at how this year is turning out, to be honest.

2005 was one of those years when famous person after famous person died. And not just mildly famous, we were talking either mega-famous or top DP picks:-

eg (just small selection) Pryor, Burns, Best, Parks, Barker, Wiesenthal, Rehnquist, King Fahd, Doohan, Heath, Franklin, Vandross, Whiteley, E Albert, Mills x2, Rainier, Thompson, Pope JP2, Callaghan, D Allen, Dee, A Miller, Schmeling, Noble, Carson etc. and at regular intervals.

2006 was never going to be more of the same.

This year, we're actually seeing more deaths, but more niche ones - ie. you've heard of them or are kinda aware of them, but them being dead makes no actual difference than them being alive. If you're into football, it's a been a year with many big names gone already. If not, then it's had less impact.

I would say only Milosevic, Shelley Winters & arguably, John Profumo & Gene Pitney have been well-known enough worldwide by a majority of people.

Tony Banks, Merlyn Rees, Peter Osgood & Linda Smith, in the UK, yep, elsewhere.. pushing it.

Ibrahim Rugova & Weinberger.... to a certain group, yes, but not to the public as a whole...

Less entertainment deaths than last year as a whole, so far, and bar football, less sporting deaths, too. I think these tend to have the biggest impact on the public as a collective whole.

So, in summary, I see the odd really big name death or big DL/DDP death being the odd example, rather than the norm, and has been proved already, probably longer gaps for them to happen.

That's my findings submitted to the DL boffins, anyhow.

It's a lull, but as sure as God made little apples, there will be a glut of deaths.

I could do with a few on my DDP and the list below...

Watch this space...

- We are on pace

- I don't know about dull, but sadly it seems a few of our Deathlist regulars have lost a bit of interest in the forums. I haven't been posting like usual since i've been away and the only access to a computer is the library. I had no library card nor any patience for the librarian. There rules (in the library) are a bit tight and I feel they could seriously use an adjustment.

much else by way of entertainment value. Or, am I wrong? Are we under-performing when it comes to posting on the DL?
- I don't really think so. People go on absence and return. Another individual who posts "50 times" a day is bound to come along. A big death brings many..

I wouldn't doubt a key contender will arrive sooner or later.

It is just a temporary lull. We are still averaging 1 death a month, so I would not be too concerned. We had a similar situation last year, when there were no DL successes in May and June before things picked up again.

Personally, I feel that the drought is due to someone jinxing it at the end of March by saying that we'd have a record year since "so many people die around Easter" or something along those lines.

Plus on April 2 last year, we had the biggest death of them all - Pope John Paul II... I think we can give April the year off this time around...

We should blame T.S. Elliot, he was the one who said "April is the cruelist of months" but I guess he was just referring to us and our current drought

But, hey, we can all share in the joy of Carlisle United's promotion, confirmed today when Karl - the goal machine - Hawley, hit home in the final moments to grab a draw away at Mansfield.

Got my ticket for the final home massacre, I mean game, against lowly Torquay.

Well i'm happy to declare that i'm back home. Though i've had many struggles with my computer all day long. I must have been on the phone with my aunts boyfriend who is a specialist when it comes to computers for 2 hours. Somehow everything is back in place... for a few moments I feared it was time to buy a new computer! ;)

Anyway perhaps the death of Pope John Paul drained the deathwave which usually is very active around this time. But could that be true? Sir John Mills croaked a few days after the great Pope so since both had 10+ appearences this years April is on a drought?

I think everyone is being very impatient. A new death will surely come rolling along. If not one of these days then May will be the name. I don't believe in this Jynx sh*t..

As i've said before we have 4 centerians. There presence on the list should pay off. ;)

PS - Dear Canadian Paul

I hate your avatar, you have had plenty of better taste in the past..

While agree with your "whatever will be will be" attitude towards the DL, just what exactly is wrong with the great Hugh Laurie? This happens to be one of my more favourite avatars? :P

Aye, each to his own avatar, Hugh Laurie, Andy Fordham and that fetching picture of myself I use. My own personal favourite avatar of all time on here has to be eejit's little inflammatory animation.

I'm amazed noone seems to have mentioned Keef Richards. I think his death has to be spectacular. Since he's left us wonderin why he's alive, it would be pure sin just to fade away.

Rock and roll life, rock and roll death.

Do you mean:

It looks as though April is going to be a "no show" for Deathlist hits. This would then be the first dud month since last November. I'll be really depressed if we don't have a hit by the month's end ? :)

Ahem....

Carlisle United 1 Torquay United 2.

Most mediocre massacre attempt ever. :banghead:

Glad to see Torquay safe - looks like Oxford down!

Sorry mpfc, I'm also happy that Torquay seem to have dodged relegation (although I've nothing against Carlisle), partly so both Soccer AM presenters actually support a league team, especially as Lovejoy supports Chelsea.

I can't decide if Curbishley leaving us will be good or not... :D Before him, I remember Lenny Lawrence in charge, and the joint thing with Steve Gritt, but that's it.

Weird how it's called Soccer AM when we always criticise the Americans for calling it soccer?
