Banshees Scream 110 Posted January 5, 2007 Looking around I found a page of time travel, I came across a story which i'm sure a couple of you have read. I don't believe any of it. But it's about a time traveler named John Titon. Wikipedia seemed to make a big deal but these are the claims John Titor was the name used by the person or persons claiming to be a time traveler from the year 2036 who posted on several time-travel–related Internet bulletin boards during 2000/2001, making many ambiguous predictions about events in the near future — all unfalsifiable due to restrictions forwarded in Titor's framing narrative — and giving an account of a supposed native time period. Proponents of Titor believe his claims cannot be substantiated due to the complex nature of the 'multiple time-line' theory. Whether or not John Titor was a hoax has been a topic of controversy on web-based paranormal discussion boards. He was supposedly born in 1998 (as indicated in 2000 when he said he saw his 2-year-old self). He is allegedly a soldier in a military group of the USA. These are taken from John Titor's original statements. A Second American Civil War from 2005-2008 An event similar to the "parting of the Red Sea" will occur in 2012. Third World War in 2015, a gradual global escalation that was ended by Russia bombing American, European and Chinese cities. Sometime before this point (referred to as "N-Day") China forcefully annexes Japan, Korea and Taiwan. Chemical and Biological weapons are used, and some "non-lethal" weapons turned out to be quite lethal. Australia successfully repels a Chinese invasion. The war kills over 3 billion people. Post-war Communities of survivors gather and grow around libraries and universities. The United States splits into five regions based on various factors and differing military objectives. The US Constitution is changed by a Constitutional Congress. A President is elected for each of the five major areas of the US. The powers of the union government are more defined and reside at the county and state level. The Vice President is elected separately. Life in 2036: Society Military service plays a large part in day-to-day life. Capital Punishment is still implemented. Communities have returned to a family/community centred state, advised by elders. Texas is Hispanicized. Chocolate is outlawed. Religion and Beliefs Religion is far more personal and plays a major part in day-to-day life. The Ten Commandments have been restored to the "10" that God gave Moses. Technology Wireless internet is ubiquitous. Microsoft and Yahoo! no longer exist. Napster still distributes music via the web. Environment The environment is heavily affected by radiation. The lack of potable water is the biggest environmental issue. Global Warming has had little effect. Temperature is about the same although there were anomalies after the war. Health The birth rate is much lower, due to a high number of birth defects and stillbirths. Mad Cow, or vCJD in humans, is a devastating public health problem. Cures for AIDS and Cancer have not been found. Viral therapy is used for Cancer.
Vinegar Tits 607 Posted January 5, 2007 John Titor was the name used by the person or persons claiming to be a time traveler from the year 2036 who posted on several time-travel–related Internet bulletin boards during 2000/2001, I remember that knocking around Usenet. IIRC, he was generally regarded as sane as Mike Corley (MI5 and Chris Tarrant's biggest fan). The big thing happening in 2012 is interesting though as isn't that when something big and nasty with consequences for the world is supposed to happen, and I'm not talking about the London Olympics either

Canadian Paul 97 Posted January 5, 2007 I've heard about this before and I'd say it's well-worth reading up on, although it's utter bullshit. My best guess is that either it was a researcher conducting a study of some sort, or someone making well-educated, bold predictions. Either way, it's very interesting and does make you think. I recommend. Wikipedia article with sources: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/John_Titor

The scheme could have takin months to draw out, and later even caught off guard by questions. This is John Titor's military insignia. -
Magere Hein 1,400 Posted January 5, 2007 The hoax if it was must have been very well thought up. I see where you stand using a researcher as an example. The scheme could have takin months to draw out, and later even caught off guard by questions. It's been ages since I last read that stuff, but then my impression was: hoax, and not a particularly good one. It's not difficult to pull such a stunt. You can make things up as you go, as long as you keep notes of what you've written and avoid contradiction. The fact that Titor made several contradictory statements tells us that he didn't. His "cover story" is rubbish. If you need to debug legacy software, you either have the hardware it runs on, or you emulate it. If you don't, you can't use the software, so you don't need to debug it. There's no need to fetch such a fossil. regards, Hein

Hoax I agree. But John Titor is still famous under the words 'Time Travel' so he did something right. Maybe his originality in the hoax won him the consideration, and as there have been other hoaxes atleast his might be the most convincing yet. When questioned about the mechanisms of time travelling, Titor answered that he was no engineer. When asked to provide a better picture of his time machine, he replied that he wasn't a photographer. Should have grabbed his pen. But I remain open to the possibility that other dimentions of time exist somehow. I was thinking last night to myself, 'If other dimentions exist how many minutes or hours or days or years seperate one from another? Could it be minutes or even seconds? If an hour was accepted as one dimention, and the next hour was a different seriese of time, If you were born in 1975 and you were 25 years old in the millenium there may be '2 19000' duplicates in other dimentions of yourself. Another question would be ' Are all dimentions one?' If I became a millionair in one dimention of the past does it carry on into future days, or is that a different dimention all together? This is giving me a headache so I think I will step out for a smoke right now.
maryportfuncity 10,687 Posted January 5, 2007 Hoax, and I know cos I really am involved in time travel. For the record, global warming is real and it'll get a lot F*****g worse before things even look like improving, back when we perfected time travel in 2041 there was a mad clamour for people to go back in time just so's they could sit in prehistoric times and enjoy cleaner air, cool breezes and drinkable water. No kidding; The Falkland Islands half a million years ago is a tourist mecca! But we have to take all the burger stalls as portable items and littering - thereby confusing historians - is punishable by death. The rest of the overblown sh*t JT peddled is the usual eye catching rubbish hoaxers can't avoid. I know my woeful performance in deadpools to date suggests my credentials as a person from the future are questionable but I use deadpools to send coded messages to my handlers in 2087, the codes can't be cracked by people involved in the deadpools or reading this forum because the cracking depends entirely on knowing the exact dates of death for my deadpool picks. Go well.

Godot 149 Posted January 5, 2007 I too am a time traveller although I came the other way: from a world where there were 240 pennies to a pound, when packets of crisps had little bags of salt in them, when people used to spit on the top decks of buses, when you could play hide and seek in the fog, when frost formed on the inside of your bedroom window in winter, when railway trains made a chuffing sound, where ice cream was vanilla only, when Supercar by Jerry Anderson was fast action sc-fi, when Town Mayors and Station Masters were important people, when television entertainment was watching the little dot when it was switched off wondering if it was a tiny TV image, when a "pop man" came and left dandylion and burdock every Thursday, when the front room was kept for best, when banana sandwiches ruled OK, when bus tickets were red print on white paper, when the car needed a bit of choke first thing and double yellow lines had yet to be invented. Yes folks, Godot is a living fossil.

But John Titor is still famous under the words 'Time Travel' so he did something right. Maybe his originality in the hoax won him the consideration, and as there have been other hoaxes atleast his might be the most convincing yet. As I see it: his audience is the "Believe Anything As Long As It's Kooky" section of the public, the people who think UFOs are alien spacecraft that make a few crop circles before whizzing off to Area 51 to mutilate some cattle and obduct a few humans for experiments of a personal nature. That he got consideration is about as remarkable as rain in Ireland. Should have grabbed his pen. But I remain open to the possibility that other dimentions of time exist somehow. There's one interpretation of quantum physics that claims that every outcome of a quantum event creates two different legs of the Trousers of Time. If that interpretation has validity, there's an awful lot of space and time out there. Unfortunately we have no known means of leaving the leg we're in, so this interpretation is speculation rather than science. About the possibily of time travel, consider this: you have a working time machine. Since things don't stay in the same place in the universe, it must not only be able to travel in time, but also in space at the same time. If it can do that, it can travel in space such that it arrives at the same time it departs. If you can do that, you can make a local waterfall that replenishes itself and use it as a source of energy. Where does that energy come from? If your time machine must provide it, we can be assured that time travel doesn't have a nice mileage. A historical argument against time travel I like is that the Bible doesn't mention hordes of tourists, speaking broken Hebrew, who were watching the Crucifixion. regards, Hein
Magere Hein 1,400 Posted January 5, 2007 A historical argument against time travel I like is that the Bible doesn't mention hordes of tourists, speaking broken Hebrew, who were watching the Crucifixion.Unless of course they went back in time and rewrote the bible omitting all references to said tourists. Possible, but not simple, quite a bit of forging and bribing to do. Then again, there's time enough. regards, Hein
maryportfuncity 10,687 Posted January 5, 2007 Let's get a few things straight and then knock this argument on the head. Re the Bible thing; witnessing that as a time traveller is about the stupidest thing you could do. Imagine if you fell over by accident and inadvertantly caused a stampede that cancelled the whole event! No handler however talented could undo the damage so anyone even thinking of making the journey would be - near as makes no odds - planning a criminal act to put Saddam's sorry escapades in perspective. So that biblical account is as trustable as you think it is, in other words, it's a matter of faith.
