Guest Mr. Tea Posted October 27, 2005 There are R'OS tributes online, but i woun't be saying where, just so you can go there, upset the many and try make out (failing) this genius is not popular anymore. The man is a timeless classic, and like it or not, his shows are here to stay!
millwall32 114 Posted October 27, 2005 Just a preemptive note to the moderators- this thread is about RO'S , which I admit is not exactly the highest level of discourse in the world, and is staying on topic. So please don't shut it down just because it has gotten a little vituperative of late. I have in mind what happened to the Pete Docherty thread.
Munch 0 Posted October 27, 2005 As my boss is on holiday this week, I've had the luxury of being able to read this thread from start to finish and jolly entertaining it's been. I am puzzled, though, by the number of posts that mention R O'S, comic and genius in the same sentence. It's like suggesting that Spike Milligan was inspired by Rod Hull. Robin's Nest et al were just typical 70s unfunny sitcoms, I just thank god that I haven't got access to TV Gold....
maryportfuncity 10,603 Posted October 27, 2005 Get real. Your "facts" are worthless. You use DVD sales and media hype as gospel. The only facts that matter is wheat her you like something or not. You can choose to revel in what your told to watch by the media, the people who complied the weekly ten best selling DVDs, etc, but I'll continue to enjoy things I like, such as the classic RO'S situation comedies. Worthless! The media is an industry, you can judge success anyway you want but people in charge of the whole thing rate income, without which they'd be unemployed. DVD sales matter and people who understand the appeal of old television programmes don't decide to release material they expect to have little or no appeal, like Me and My Girl. When and where did any of us slagging Dickie O use 'media hype as gospel'? Dickie O's name isn't exactly linked with media hype, the truth is he's largely ignored by journalists and the rest. Either find the sources we used and quote them back to us or shut up. Do you have any evidence that I watch/read/listen to what I'm told to? Cos I don't, I value my ability to choose as much as you do and since the only thing you can usefully gather from my posts is I don't rate Richard O'Sullivan's work I'd say anything else is guesswork on your part. However, it's refreshing to see a post from the Dickie Barmy Army that doesn't claim a massive following and/or genius for the man.

Harvester Of Souls 40 Posted October 27, 2005 I think Dickie O is shite... about as funny as piles. I want him to live, only because I don't want to be subjected to the 'Tw@ About The House' re-runs... UK Gold should be boarded and forced to walk the plank. However, it's refreshing to see a post from the Dickie Barmy Army that doesn't claim a massive following and/or genius for the man. Your posts are all about DVD sales. The point is the sales do matter from a business point of view, so what? Needless to say most of our daily lives doesn't revolve around DVD sales. That's like saying McDonalds are the greatest food around, because they sell more food than any other restaurant. Funny as it may seem I'd take a nice gourmet meal over that big slop, but each to their own... If you can choose without being told by the media or the DVD best sellers list, then don't use it as your de fence. If you rant on about it and use it as your argument then people will make the assumption that's what you base your onion on, if you don't, then there is no need to use it as it is worthless to the individual. Guest Peter Jones The Milkman Posted October 27, 2005 Media Hype..... DVD Sales..... blah blah blah. Dickie O's shows live forever in our hearts despite all this. One thing is right, The media is an industry and UK Gold make a nice sum of money out of Dickie O classics, as people pay to advertise when they are on. So that's that. Regardless of the DVD's being out or not, there is still a market for them, that makes money and gets viewers. Now (MPF) put away your copy of "DVD weekly" and realize that's not all what the world is about. maryportfuncity 10,603 Posted October 27, 2005 You've counted as the rest of us suspected. I know Richard O' Sullivan hasn't got the world's most discerning fan base but the same desperate level of spelling from so many fleeting posters was a give away. Mr Alan - or whatever you call yourself next time you post - let me get this right. First off, you've stopped arguing the man is indisputably great and you've also avoided the challenge to source the 'media hype' we were allegedly repeating. Now you're saying I shouldn't use my own ability to think for myself to back up my argument that Richard O' Sullivan is a limited talent because people will think I base my 'onion' entirely on this. A couple of points: 1 - You based your previous argument firmly on the same line, praising your independent thinking and stating it all came down to 'wheat her' or not you liked Dickie O's work. 2 - I've blatantly not limited my arguments to my own opinions - something you've noted by picking up on other bits of the said arguments - the others posting about yer man's limited talents have also thrown more than personal opinion into their savaging of his output. Anyone following this lively little thread - as a few seem to be - will take this on board and realise our collective 'onion's are widely sourced.

Guest Mr. Jones Posted October 28, 2005 Richard O Sullivan is pure class, top talent and a great star, all you disasters are just proving what us fans have thought all along - he is the greatest and hi name lasts the decades. The reason a lot of us (not all) have the same ISP maybe because we are using the computers at the HQ of The Richard O Sullivan Appreciation Society, where we nip to on our days off, weekends, lunch breaks, etc to enjoy a swin, game of tennis, and indeed our Dickie O Videos and DVDS!! Guest Ben Posted October 28, 2005 I'm in that society, as are 225,000 other members in the UK alone, they have the best computers (which i am now using) and of course the best of everything, but of course they would, they have the best taste in everything, even TV shows - Robins Nest, Man About The House, Me And My Girl....... Guest Thanks Cliff Posted October 28, 2005 May I take this oppitunity to thank Sir Cliff Richard for all the work he has done to raise funds for Brinsworth House, where Richard O'S and "Fluff" Freeman now call their home. Two of the greatest UK stars ever i'm sure we'll all agree. Please dig deep and help the cause at http://www.eabf.org.uk/ Thank you.
