Mohamed Ould Abdel Aziz, former President of Mauritania 2008-2009 (as President of the High Council of State) and 2009-2019 and also the Chairperson of the African Union 2014-2015 preceding Bobby Mugabe, currently serving a prison sentence admitted to military hospital for "urgent care", in a "worrying but stable" situation according to lawyer.

Worth noting that two of his predecessors are still alive and over 80:

Mohamed Khouna Ould Haidalla (1940-) President/Head of State 1980-1984

Maaouya Ould Sid'Ahmed Taya (1941-) President 1984-2005

Since old fuckers of Kenya and Tanzania seem to be immortal, here is a challenge between six old political figures of the two countries. Last Country standing wins.

Kenya                                                                                                                                                        Tanzania

Charles Njonjo (1920)                                                                                                                              David Musuguri (1920)

Daniel arap Moi (1924)            :dead:                                                                                                        Ali Hassan Mwinyi (1925)

Mwai Kibaki (1931)                                                                                                                                   Cleopa Msuya (1931)

Mama Ngina Kenyatta (1933)                                                                                                                  Mama Maria Nyerere (1930)

Moody Awori (1928)                                                                                                                                  Jamshid bin Abdullah of Zanzibar (1929)

Duncan Ndegwa (1925)                                                                                                                            John Malecela (1934)

Come on, come back into the averages of your Countries!

Tanzania seems to be winning as none of the six Tanzanians have died yet, Kenya "only" has 4/6 left.

Rare, nearly hour-long interview of former Nigerian despot/president 1985-1993 Ibrahim Babangida, called "Evil Genius" and "Maradona":

Talks about a lot of things, including his parent's deaths, what a good Nigerian leader would be like and his relationship with the current president Muhammadu Buhari who Babangida ousted in 1985. Babangida himself resigned in 1993, after which Ernest Shonekan (1936-) was the president for a while until Shonekan was overthrown by kleptocratic dictator Sani Abacha (1943-1998) who died of either a heart attack or an assasination in 1998 while in power.

One of the 7 former Heads of State of Nigeria, 6 of which are over 78 (if the current pres Buhari is included as former, having once lead the country before). Not even one of them seems to be in a really bad shape currently, as in October Buhari had a virtual meeting with all of the other six.

Ernest Shonekan, interim head of state of Nigeria for under three months in 1993 has reportedly died at a hospital in Lagos. He was 85:

https://thestreetjournal.org/former-nigerian-leader-ernest-shonekan-dies-at-85/

Seems like 1993 Nigerian presidential candidate Bashir Tofa died a week ago.

Also here's a recent picture of Mengistu Haile Mariam, murderous asshole dictator of Ethiopia 1974/1977-1991 with around 1,200,000 victims:

How do these work? Did they watch their neighbours and thought "Hey, we'll have one, too"?

Paul Biya apparently too frail to walk down the stairs of the stadium during the finale of the African Football Cup to hand the trophy to the winners.
Could supposedly barely stand up.

Edit: Finally found a video of it.

Is it just me or does he sound much worse in this speech (starts at 1:30) from yesterday than in the one from new year's day?

102-year-old Nonye Josephine Ezeanyaeche, founder of the Voice for Senior Citizens of Nigeria declares interest in running for President of Nigeria in 2023. I don't know how likely it is that she'll get over a percentage of votes, might not even be alive when the elections are held (Feb 2023) but there's always a very tiny chance...

Until 1.18, the other clips are old. Seems like the stroke he had in 2019 left its mark

Denis Sassou Nguesso was in Switzerland for medical treatment in September according to this.

Denis Sassou Nguesso, President/dictator of the Republic of the Congo well enough to give an interview about the coups happening in Africa a couple of days ago.

However Africa has some even more overdue current despots. Ismail Omar Guelleh, Teodoro Obiang Nguema Mbasogo, Ali Bongo, Yoweri Museveni and Isaias Afwerki. And the cherry on top of the cake, Paul Biya. Won't be a sad day when one of these dies.

In addition there's King Mswati Playboy III, Mohammed VI who sometimes needs a heart surgery, Sahrawi ADR's Brahim Ghali who was very ill with covid a year ago, Kais Saied looks and acts like a walking corpse and Paul Kagame who has never looked like the picture of health to me. So thin.

Jacob Oulanyah, current Speaker of the Uganda Parliament since May 2021 is in a Seattle hospital and has been there since early February. Now his brother and the deputy speaker are in the US.

https://www.independent.co.ug/deputy-speaker-among-off-to-seattle/

Seems like he's very ill, unconfirmed reports say that it's stage four colon cancer and there have been death rumors recently...
