Godot 149 Posted December 2, 2005 Michelmore is well worth the debate and a good candidate for a couple of years on perhaps, but he looks too well to me. On dullness, another couple of candidates might be Richard Baker (who must be getting on a bit but seems to be still working)and Tony Hart who is now about 80. I never took to Vision On but he did design the Blue Peter badge which makes him exceedingly famous but still a bit dull.
maryportfuncity 10,647 Posted December 3, 2005 Tony Hart who is now about 80. I never took to Vision On but he did design the Blue Peter badge which makes him exceedingly famous but still a bit dull. And has his own thread hereabouts. Wonder what a collective noun for a group of vacuous tv celebs like Mitchelmore and Hart would be. How about an ABSENCE of Mitchelmores. Or a LACKLUSTRE of Harts. Godot 149 Posted December 3, 2005 Or a dozen of Bakers. Does he have a thread? I can't find one.
Tempus Fugit 214 Posted December 3, 2005 Tony Hart who is now about 80. Neither Hart or Michelmore are vacuous, both are intelligent well educated men, you may find them insipid, but that probably has more to do with the kind of TV shows they presented, than the individuals themselves. Michelmore and Hart could in reality be sparkling wits, real life of the party types, granted they're probably not. But compared to someone like Pete Doherty, I know whom I'd rather have a conversation with.
Godot 149 Posted December 3, 2005 Both are talented guys and Michelmore has a good sense of humour but I don't recall him ever lighting up the screen or pissing anyone off like Paxman does all the time. Tony Hart is a huge talent but still very dull, as was the Blue Peter badge but maybe that's sour grapes because I never got one, or a Crackerjack pencil (the dream double for tellywatching kids in the sixties). Guest Guest Posted April 9, 2006 Yesterday (April 8th) BBC Parliament Channel showed the whole of the BBC TV Election Night coverage for the General Election of 1966. Cliff Michelmore was an excellent Anchor for the coverage.
maryportfuncity 10,647 Posted April 9, 2006 Then bring him back and let let the stress of trying to repeat that performance put some life into this dull dull thread. Do you think - like - he ever partied with Frank Bough?
Handrejka 1,904 Posted April 9, 2006 I think he still crops up on those charity appeal things the BBC does at Christmas. I'm in my late 20s and still remember him but I doubt anyone under 25 would.
maryportfuncity 10,647 Posted May 18, 2006 Saw a somewhat misguided reference to necromancy on another thread which prompted me to revive this flagging apology - the thread, not CM himself - to see if any true necromancers out there could breathe anything resembling life into its sorry existence. Personally, I reckon they invented grey suits because creatures like Cliff Mitchelmore roam this earth, end of.
Guest DL Ghost Posted May 18, 2006 Cliff Michelmore (no T) was (probably still is) a fine upstanding man. Reliable, authoritative with a mashy sort of a smile and a few strands of hair. He left us too soon, as did most of the presenters of Nationwide where he may or may not have done some presenting since Cliff was really a "Tonight" man in what is now the Newsnight slot. Jeremy Paxman pah! You knew were you were with Michelmore and where you were was somewhere else. He should be deathlisted for 2007.
maryportfuncity 10,647 Posted May 19, 2006 DL Ghost, I like the cut of your jib. Fulsome praise for a man before turning, accepting his mortality, and demanding we all share in his demise.

Imperturbable in all situations. Rather like Guy when he dropped that cup of coffee on his keyboard a couple of seconds before going on-air a few years back. maryportfuncity 10,647 Posted May 27, 2006 No sh*t! Now here's a dilemma, do we have us a genuine celeb relative surfing and joshing with the rest of us or a drive-by case winding us up? Only time, I guess, will tell. When his official site goes live and he links it to us here we'll know Jenny was the real deal. Amazing, real tension and interest surrounding Cliff Mitchelmore! maryportfuncity 10,647 Posted May 27, 2006 S'cuse the pedantry but after an exhaustive Internet trawl I think we have us a mistake here. It's MITCHELMORE and not MICHELMORE as we have it at the top of the thread.

The Pooka 26 Posted May 27, 2006 If Jenny Michelmore's post is genuine, and I see no need to doubt it, is this the first post by either the topic of a DL thread or their relative? Its certainly very sporting of her to join the dicussion and I look forward to hearing from Cliff. I do hope he's lost that comb-over.

maryportfuncity 10,647 Posted May 27, 2006 Cecil my unregistered drive-by poster of a mate! I take yer point but as someone with a week or two's experience around these parts I know better than to take anything on these boards at immediate face value. Should you decide to stick around you'll find banter - for example - claiming that one poster is Jimmy Page in disguise. Then again, maybe you're an old timer on these boards yourself sneaking under the wire with a new name. And maybe I'm Cliff Michelmore joshing with yers all. I love the Internet me.
