When he does finally go, those endless repeats of Dad's Army should at least fund a decent sized send-off

As long as, when embalmed, they don't stick anything up the clapper. They don't like it up 'em, he won't like it up 'im, and he'll come back to remain on the list forever if he cops it there.

Long live Clive! Don't panick! You've years left!

I was going to ask if you were the semi-legendary 70s footballer Steve Death - notable for setting a league record for most minutes played consecutively without conceding a goal (1103, it stood for around 30 years before being broken by Edwin Van Der Sar in 2009) - a piece of trivia i would almost certainly have forgot in the intervening 25 years or so since i read it if it wasnt for his rather splendid name. Alas, a trip to the aforementioned goalkeeper's wikipedia page suggests that Mr Death is, in fact, dead - having died of cancer in 2003 at the age of 54. Had no idea.

He was on the BBC last night as part of the David Croft tribute programme and still looks very fit and healthy.

Wonder if we'll get a BBC4 "Tears Behind The Laughter" docudrama in the style of the ones about Hattie Jacques, Kenneth Williams and Wilfrid Brambell when Dunn carks it.

A couple of things:

1) I entirely expect Clive (the clue is in the name, he's not called Cdie) to outlive BBC 4; and

2) If he does ever die (which I don't think will happen) I think his ghost should then get listed on the Death List; oh and

2a) The Google search needs updating. A search for Clive Dunn leads one to DL 2011 still.

Back to lurking for me

The question about Dunn is whether he had ever done anything worth making a docudrama about or alternatively, how would you make an 1.5 hour long program about someone who lived a normal life and generally behaved quite well.

Does Dunn have any skeletons in his closet?

Only the skeletons of the multitudes he has outlived...

I would have thought that being immortal is well and truly worth making a docudrama about. I don't think anyone else has yet been proved immortal, although there could be billions of them out there now. As of now the only real test is living longer than 122 years and 164 days. So how would the docudrama be framed? There's obviously no ending as most of Dunn's immortality will have been after he retired from mainstream acting. Perhaps the producers would have to opt for the story of one year in his life. But how would they choose one? The man's immortal, for all we know his best years could be yet to come.

I've been off this forum for ages and it's good to see Clive Dunn still on the list.

As I understand it there is an unwritten rule that he will remain on the list until he dies....if he ever does. :P

I got that. Since I started using this forum again a few days ago I remembered how seriously I take the main list, how much I want us to get as many names "right" as possible, and how much I want to congratulate all my fellow deathlisters when someone goes.(In my mind's eye we are all slapping each other on the back and shaking hands like we work at NASA and we've just heard that the probe landed or something)

In a way I regard Clive Dunn as a bit of a spoilt ballot because he shows no sign of dying soon. But I see the poin of having him there for jokey, sentimental reasons I suppose.

perhaps the reason for his immortality

From a reliable source (Good Omens by Pratchett and Gaiman) I know that the Antichrist will have the same phenotype, so you may be on to something.
