Guest Guest Posted June 13, 2006 Wondering if the host of Mr and Mrs - the most successful show in the modest history of Carlisle based Border Television - is still breathing. Anyone know? Derek is a friend of mine and is alive and well living with his wife and daughter in The Canaries
maryportfuncity 10,639 Posted June 13, 2006 Tell him we're asking after him, do you have any other friends in showbiz and any inside information you might want to share?
maryportfuncity 10,639 Posted October 15, 2006 Derek has just sold the family jewels - i.e. the rights to Mr and Mrs - for a shitload of cash. The show's comin' back without him. Only heard the story third hand. Seems he's still healthy enough to enjoy the cash. So far as I can tell he didn't whisper hoarsely; 'I'm not long for this world, take all I have.' It was more along the lines of a calmly conducted transaction after some tense negotiations.

Octopus of Odstock 2,186 Posted October 15, 2006 Derek has just sold the family jewels - i.e. the rights to Mr and Mrs - for a shitload of cash. Just sold? MPFC, you need better news sources. This is old news. This story was first reported in July and Batey is acting as a consultant. He's probably already splashing the cash.
maryportfuncity 10,639 Posted October 16, 2006 Aye, it was a friend of a friend jobbie. He's not - I think - doing a lot of consulting, more relaxing in the sun and spending his cash. He, his wife and his daughter live pretty well on his vast stash of money.

morbidillo 1 Posted December 8, 2006 Ted Rogers who used to compere 3-2-1 in the eighties did,nt hang around that long after the programme ended... http://www.eyespider.freeserve.co.uk/drwho.../kklak/ted.html Its a pity really as I fancied hiring him to experience those super fast fingers... I bet his wife appreciated them!
morbidillo 1 Posted June 14, 2007 Derek Batey is/ was a naus... Any one agree? I think he,s still alive and well but he can,t have much longer to go, can he? Maybe hes another resident of that retirement home that Richard O sullivan lives in? When watching him on Mr and Mrs I could never decided if he was a true scot or just putting on the accent when he felt like it as it seemed to change depending on the couple he was playing with! I think he was born in Cumberland but spent time north of the border. May be wrong though, and perhaps he was just adding it because he couldn't get any work with his normal voice... maryportfuncity 10,639 Posted June 14, 2007 We've been Batey baiting before. A thread merging - possibly three way to include the quizz show hosts - may be in order.

morbidillo 1 Posted June 15, 2007 Perhaps he got the idea for Mr and MRS as a chance to get in on as many threesomes as possible! And remember his "hostess" Susan Cuff/Cup/Clough?? whose very important job it was to shuffle contestants from one side of the stage to the other and look brain dead? I think I need to watch some old repeats of this show to remind me of the naffness of it all!! Derek is actually "up for rent": http://www.mr-and-mrs.tv/derek-batey.htm Im sooooo tempted!!!
