Guest Mitch Buchannon Posted November 9, 2009 and off course in the great year 1989 the fall of the Berlin wall: There's something not quite right there. Ahhh that's better!
time 8,599 Posted November 9, 2009 The 9th of November seems to be a very important date for Germany: in 1918 the fall of the German monarchy: <edit> in 1938 the dreadfull Kristallnacht: <edit> and off course in the great year 1989 the fall of the Berlin wall: <edit> Wikipedia also identifies the execution of Robert Blum, (1848), the Beer Hall Putsch of 1923, marking the emergence of the Nazi Party (8th and 9th Nov.) and the possible establishment of the SS in 1925. Also, today is 'Inventor's Day' in the German speaking countries of Europe, being Hedy Lamarr's birthday.

Although I dare say it had more to do with the terminal bowel cancer from which he was suffering... Yeah, that too...

themaninblack 2,112 Posted November 11, 2009 Yasser Arafat died 5 years ago today... I can remember how annoying that was. One moment the media declared him dead, the other he was alive again, then dead again. It just seemed to go back and forth, I am really glad that something like that never hapened again. That was to keep the Israelis on their toes...

time 8,599 Posted November 16, 2009 November 15 2002 marks the 7th anniversary of when Myra Hindley did the world a favour. November 16: A few British icons departed on this day in years past, including: 1982, it was goodbye playmates from Arthur Askey 1994, it was last orders for Doris Speed and a year ago we had Reg Varney's last stop at the cemetary gates (via the cashpoint, obviously)

Lady Grendel 139 Posted November 24, 2009 John Knox, leader of the Protestant Reformation in Scotland, died on this day in 1572. The man I firmly blame for me being forced to spend my formative years attending Sunday School where I was scarred for life by learning songs like 'Dare to Be a Daniel' and suffering the indignity of playing the Archangel Gabriel, resplendent in a white sheet and a tinsel halo, at their nativity play. Everyone knew Gabriel should be played by a boy and not a 10-year-old girl, I am very grateful camcorders weren't around then.
