Dr. Zorders 1,271 Posted March 5, 2014 George Formby died on this day in 1961. (Not soon enough many would say.) He fell off a ladder while cleaning a window. And Ayn Rand, philosopher and author of the provocative "Atlas Shrugged", and hero to "right-wing" libertarians, and also one of the most hated figures amongst certain left wingers who pretend to care about poor people but really just want to act out all their Stalinist 1984 fantasies on the entire population, died on March 6 1982.

Guest Guest Posted March 21, 2014 Our pet budgie Billy died 10 years ago today. It was my first experience of death close up. I can stilll remember being in floods of tears as my dad dug the hole in the garden and laid him to rest. I was equally upset when he laid a concrete patio over it the following summer. Dr. Zorders 1,271 Posted March 21, 2014 Did you know....... Ernie Wise made the first ever official mobile phone call in the UK, in early 1985? I guess they were thinking, this is such amazing technology, let's see if we can somehow get through to Eric and get him to tell us a decent joke? http://news.bbc.co.u...ogy/4138449.stm Also: Fuck's sake, one of the images I used in the J.T. Walsh post has expired from the internet already!

Dr. Zorders 1,271 Posted April 5, 2014 Kurt Cobain was found dead twenty years ago today aged 27... God, I feel old... Hahah! I didn't even know where I was in 1994. Not because I wasn't old enough yet, but because 1994 was the year when my home town was hit by a roving band of sign thieves who stole all the "Welcome to"/"You are now entering..." signs. Deathray 2,940 Posted April 8, 2014 Margaret Thatcher died one year ago today... Then why isn't today a national holiday? Because thankfully we don't honour former PMs with national holidays, that would be a lot of national holidays.

Dr. Zorders 1,271 Posted April 30, 2014 Bugger. You shit. I was gonna post old Adolf. Knew I'd been beaten to it as soon as I saw the thread was bumped. Oh well. Staying with the theme of dead Austrians, F1 driver Roland Ratzenberger was killed in 1994 while driving for the lowly Simtek team on qualifying day at the so-called "San Marino Grand Prix" (actually held in Italy). He was killed instantly when he crashed into a wall at pretty much maximum speed, after his car wouldn't turn (it had suffered damage on a previous lap). He was the first driver to actually die at a proper F1 event in over a decade and it shocked the world of F1 but not nearly as much as what happened on race day, Sunday May 1.
