Its 50 years since Erle Stanley Gardner died aged 80.

 

Best known as the creator and of Perry Mason, he was also a qualified lawyer and founded The Court of Last Resort, an organisation dedicated to pursuing justice for those who were imprisoned unfairly or couldn't get a fair trial.

A final loss of direction for prolific film director William Beaudine 50 years ago.

His career spanned 50+ years and he directed an impressive 75 films in the 1940's (note that's not 75 impressive films).

One of his Bowery Boys films was mistakenly nominated for an Oscar because it shared its title with a Bing Crosby/Frank SInatra/Grace Kelly film on release at the same time.

He was 78 and died from acute kidney failure.
