Hooroo, Mate.

Two big deaths announced here today.

John Marsden (74) author of young adult fiction (books on school syllabus - most people under 40 would have read his work) - died whilst writing at his desk at home

Michael Leunig (79) cartoonist with an instantly recognisable and extremely large body of work - died peacefully to the music of Bach & Beethoven

Both massive literary characters, both entirely unexpected deaths (to the public at least)

Michael Turner, Australian rules footballer, has died. A pick in the DDP.

That's is all 3 of my unused DDP main team Subs for 2024 dead.Only 6 hits but 3 Subs dead ( Others were Steve Smith( football) and Franciise Hardy). Was thinking of picking Turner as I thought he might be a unique.I was right to doubt that.

Edith Bliss, a reporter from Simon Townsend's Wonder World, died today. I can't really recall her at all - she was on in the early days of the show.

It led me to wonder about Simon himself though and his Wikipedia page has some interesting information: "In recent years Townsend has suffered three strokes. In August 2005, he told ABC TV he feared the next stroke might kill him."

Pity - by all accounts he is an absolutely top bloke.

Simon Townsend reportedly dead mate: https://www.abc.net.au/news/2025-01-15/simon-townsend-has-died-journalist-tv-presenter/104818750

Definitely a previous DDP pick for @machotrouts, possibly 2025 pick?

Can't find any other confirmation at the moment but it looks like actress Leila Hayes, best known as Beryl Palmer in 'Sons And Daughers' has died aged 85.
