Grim Reaper 186 Posted October 26, 2004 'tis indeed very sad news A top bloke if ever there was one and tough to find amusing puns about his demise especially now Anubis has used that one...
Stayin Alive 26 Posted October 26, 2004 A real, real shame. Peely really was quite unique. But, I have no choice but to say, that he is a bit of a 'dead beat'.
IKYWN 6 Posted October 26, 2004 For once I'm actually quite shocked and saddened. John Peel was unique and never let age get in the way of his love of new musical trends. Perhaps we could start a Celebrity DJ Deathlist in his honour. I'll start the ball rolling with Alan "Is he still breathing?" Freeman and Tony "the bastard never paid me for washing his car" Blackburn. RIP John
The Four Horsemen 26 Posted October 26, 2004 Seems like the most opportune time to use the icon. Not often that all deathlisters are unanimous in their lamenting.......
Typhoid Harry 23 Posted October 26, 2004 DWB scooped Anubis by one minute in the "Dead Losses" thread. Credit where due, and all. http://www.cnn.com/2004/SHOWBIZ/Music/10/2...reut/index.html

Paul Bearer 6,131 Posted October 26, 2004 I just heard John Peel the Radio 1 DJ has died on holiday in Peru, aged 65. Bit of a shocker that one! It was to him
VSBfromH 74 Posted October 26, 2004 Deeply shocked here too! With him and Robert Merrill gone in the same week, there will be some damn good sounds heard beyond those pearly gates from now on! He is (was) one of those people you assume would always be around. Unlike his contemporary, Sir Jim of Stoke Mandeville, for whom swap the word "assume" in the above sentence with "lament"... Grim Reaper 186 Posted October 26, 2004 A heart attack in Peru, hm? Can't help but wonder... Peely was a diabetic which I understand isnt too got for ones heart
Rude Kid 3 Posted October 26, 2004 Yep, a genuine shocker alright. I was just listening to his Home Truths programme a couple of weeks ago, and he sounded on top form as usual. Disclaimer: I'm not a regular Radio 4 listener, honest...

Grim Reaper 186 Posted October 27, 2004 Just to finish this thread - a quote I ripped off from somewhere else... "If God is a DJ, he's just lost his job".
Stayin Alive 26 Posted October 31, 2004 Yeah, I heard that he was diabetic too, but only after he died. I guess it wasn't something he needed to share with everyone, but I was surprised to hear it. Didn't seem to get in the way of business at the Big Chill - we (the crowd) was pleased enough with his performance
The Yeti 14 Posted November 2, 2004 Mark E. Smith's, of The Fall, 'eulogy' to John Peel, as per his appearance on Newsnight. Click here - Note the quote marks above ... (Real Media Player needed)
Grim Reaper 186 Posted November 2, 2004 A magnificent performance from the carrier bag man Its always bit disappointing to see those shambling music figures turn themselves into respectable celebrity types in older age (John Lydon ? )...no such disappointment with Mark E Smith Wonder if we'll see Pete Doherty on Newsnight in about 20 years time giving a touching tribute following Zane Lowe's shock demise
Anubis the Jackal 77 Posted September 23, 2005 For want of anywhere better to put this... Mark E Smith of The Fall to read football scores!
