Teddy 21 Posted October 24, 2004 Strange you should ask - I have been told that I look like a cross between Rolf Harris and Eddie Izzard - although I think it was the dress that brought the Izzard comparison

Rude Kid 3 Posted October 26, 2004 Nah, ol' Rolf did a cover version of it, but he apparently didn't write it: http://www.bbc.co.uk/radio2/soldonsong/son.../stairway.shtml "Stairway To Heaven" first took shape in December 1970, as Zeppelin were limbering up for their fourth album. Jimmy Page was tinkering with the riff by the fire at Headley Grange, a big Victorian mansion in Hampshire that the band had hired for rehearsal, when Robert Plant suddenly plucked the lyrics out of the air. "I was holding a pencil and paper," Plant later recalled, "all of a sudden my hand was writing out the words… I just sat there and looked at them, and almost leapt out of my seat!" Typhoid Harry 23 Posted October 27, 2004 What Harry ?? The sarcasm filters werent needed? I must admit to never having heard that urban legend before No sarcasm involved; I'd just heard all my life that Harris wrote the song, I'd never looked before, amd now I see that I bought a bill of goods. The Four Horsemen 26 Posted October 27, 2004 Rolf did write "Tie Me Kangaroo Down, Sport" but according to his autobiography it was originally called "Kangaroo Calypso" if I remember correctly. He didn't write "Two Little Boys", it pre-dates even Mr Harris. And no, I don't know why I know this and I'm not proud
Paul Bearer 6,130 Posted October 27, 2004 Also did 'sun arise'. Makes you wonder why Jake the peg wasnt a hit
honez 79 Posted October 27, 2004 Harris penned "Stairway to Heaven" made famous by Led Zeppelin. I can definitely put this one to rest. I saw an interview on telly with Rolf talking about The Money or the Gun's Stairways to Heaven album. This was a compilation of recordings taken from a TV show in Australia, where each week, guest bands performed a version of Stairway to Heaven in their own unique style. It's got reggae, blues, jazz, in fact all sorts of different versions of the song, including Rolf's. When interviewed, the venerable Sir Rolf of the Harris admitted that he'd never heard the song before, so before going on the show, he got a copy of it in sheet music form so he could arrange his performance in his own style, digeridoos, wobble boards an' all. (I was disappointed he didn't use the stylophone though. ) See this Amazon.com reference. The link to Rolf's version seems to point to the wrong song though (and I can't be arsed going throught the rest to see if it's buried in there somewhere.) Cowboy Ronnie 78 Posted May 3, 2005 well, of course he didn't write Stairway (Page/Plant, duh), but check out this interesting nugget on a track he did: Tie Me Kangaroo Down Sport Rolf wrote this in 1957, inspired by Harry Belafonte's calypsos. The song was number 1 for about four weeks in Australia in 1960; this version was re-recorded in England in 1962. Apparently, the verse marked * caused offence (leading to the song being banned in Singapore), and was removed in later years. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- (Harris) Ardmore & Beechwood Ltd / EMI (P) 1963 Arr. Johnnie Spence - Produced by George Martin [spoken:] There's an old Australian stockman, lying, dying, and he gets himself up on one elbow, and he turns to his mates, who are gathered 'round him and he says: Watch me wallabys feed mate. Watch me wallabys feed. They're a dangerous breed mate. So watch me wallabys feed. Altogether now! Tie me kangaroo down sport, tie me kangaroo down. Tie me kangaroo down sport, tie me kangaroo down. Keep me cockatoo cool, Curl, keep me cockatoo cool. Don't go acting the fool, Curl, just keep me cockatoo cool. Altogether now! Take me koala back, Jack, take me koala back. He lives somewhere out on the track, Mac, so take me koala back. Altogether now! Let me Abos go loose, Lou, * let me Abos go loose. They're of no further use, Lou, so let me Abos go loose. Altogether now! Mind me platypus duck, Bill, mind me platypus duck. Don't let him go running amok, Bill, mind me platypus duck. Altogether now! Play your digeridoo, Blue, play your digeridoo. Keep playing 'til I shoot thro' Blue, play your digerydoo. Altogether now! Tan me hide when I'm dead, Fred, tan me hide when I'm dead. So we tanned his hide when he died Clyde, (Spoken) And that's it hanging on the shed. Altogether now! ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- a true Australian hero. Maybe when PW Botha goes his DL title of "racist" can pass to the Rolfster.
