VETERAN KEEPER STEALS SHOW...

Today's FWFC Man Of The Match was Fort keeper Jimmy Paterson!

The 51 year-old Fort goal keeping coach was pressed into first team action due to injury to regular number one Dougie MacLennan and the unavailability of Robin Harvey and Ryan Hunter

Fort's oldest ever debutant produced a serious of stunning saves, then topped it off with the best of the lot when he pulled of a magnificent save to keep out Artjoms Kuznecovs penalty just before half-time!

The old fella can be rightly proud of his performance today!

This thread may be a suitable place to post details of Bournemouth's progress on their quest to undercut the worst Premiershit performance in history (current holders Derby County), during the 2015-16 season.

I think they might stay up. The Southampton/Swansea style teams tend to click in the top league.

Feel free to quote and laugh next April when they have about 2 points.

I think they won't. I'm thinking pure economics here. Their capacity is under 12,000, I.e. it's less than three quarters of what Carlisle United can squeeze in. In fact, Carlisle's one season in the top flight might get cited as a reality check for Bournemouth. I wouldn't be surprised if they progress the way we did, a brief honeymoon with unlikely wins and admiring comments from critics (we were top after three games!) followed by a steady slide into trouble as everyone susses how to defeat the limited number of tactical master plans at Bournemouth's disposal and injured key players mean skilfully challenged reserves are fielded with the daunting task of marking the likes of Wayne Rooney.

I'd love to see them pull off a Bradford City and go wild with celebration on the last day because they finished one above relegation, but I don't think it will happen.

I think, in Eddie Howe, they've got an outstanding manager. This alone won't guarantee survival of course, but it's a significant plus. Also, take into account some of the dross that's floating round the lower half of the premier table but not getting relegated this season - I think Bournemouth will easily hold their own with the likes of Sunderland, Hull, Palace, etc.

I believe Carlisle started off in Div 1 with a 2-0 away win against Chelsea.Wonder if AFCB can emulate that.

(Yes they did.)

Carlisle went top by beating - in order - Chelsea, Middlesborough and Spurs in the first three games.

Complete league table and results are here: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/1974%E2%80%9375_Football_League_First_Division

Which will make it clear that - on the basis of that season - we have a 100% league record against Everton.

Rant over!

I'd love Bournemouth to survive and prosper, even if that is limited to lording it over the likes of Sunderland. Though when they beat Carlisle a few seasons back I stupidly told a smug steward we'd see them in a couple of seasons!

Been thinking of quoting this for a while (with a mischievous smile rather than malicious intent, you understand), but didn't want to jinx the team. Marvellous season for Bournemouth, confounding many of the pundits.

Amusingly, nearly everything MPFC mentioned above actually happened, and yet they still managed to win enough games.

Good run our for The Fort tonight! Liam Taylor was the top man with 4 goals! Also on the score sheet were Farquhar MacRae with 2 and singles from Martin Munro, BarnaTot, Glenn Fell and youngster Ronan Cameron!

The only downside...the bloody midges!

Result from tonight's pre-season friendly...

FORT WILLIAM FC 1 SPEY VALLEY UNITED FC 2

A Fort side, missing several first team regulars, went down 2-1 to the Speyside juniors, who thoroughly deserved the win!

This match was played in Dingwall, with Barna Tot getting The Fort goal.

New season starting soon.

League match saw Fort lose 4-2, but other teams lost by the same margin without scoring and some - like Strathspey - took bigger tankings, a mid-table position for our heroes tonight, then

tenth out of 18 teams with two of the 18 still to play

Not a promising start to the season from our perspective.

Aye, but a prediction: Fort will be Fort, a few of the other predictable calamities will chip in and within a few weeks the tension in the bottom three about who really is the worst will keep us amused for a whole season. Fort might just look over their shoulders and content themselves at the thought of Strathspey's complete fecklessness but it's all to play for.

FORT WILLIAM 0 FRASERBURGH 3

There was an optimistic feeling around Claggan Park ahead of our first home game of the 2016/17 SHFL Season.

The pitch was looking immaculate and the newly refurbished dressing rooms were in use for the first time.

Kick-off was delayed by 15 mins due to the referee being caught up in Fort William's continual traffic problems!

The Fort took the game to Fraserburgh right from the start, and visiting keeper Paul Leask had to look sharp to deny Iain MacLellan after only 15 seconds!

The Fort were by far the better side in the first half and had further chances from Adam Porritt, Jack Lingard and another couple from Maccy.

But as the old saying goes, if you don't take your chances it will come back to bite you, and that was exactly what happened in the second half!

Fraserburgh number 9 Grant Noble was clinical in front of goal and grabbed himself an excellent 25 minute hat-trick to ensure that the points left with the visitors.

Then at the death, for the second successive game,The Fort were denied a stonewall penalty! But in the defenders defence, he only used TWO hands to save it!

Next up is a trip to current league leaders Buckie Thistle next Saturday

BUCKIE THISTLE 4 FORT WILLIAM 2

The Fort headed east yesterday to face top of the table Buckie Thistle.

The Jags had started the season winning their first 3 games and scoring 18 goals into the bargain.

They strengthened their team considerably during the summer, most notably with the signing of ex-Fort favourites John Mcleod and Sam Urquhart.

Despite the home side having most of the early play, it was The Fort who were to take the lead, and what a goal it was. ADAM PORRITT'S stunning free-kick made it 1-0 Fort on the half hour mark.

The Fort held on to half-time, but the home side were level just 60 seconds into the second half. John Mcleod fired home from the spot after Fort keeper Dougie MacLennan was penalised.

Minutes later and it was 2-1 Buckie,Sam Urquhart in the right place to head home.

But The Fort hung in there and got their reward when LIAM TAYLOR fired home to make it 2-2.

But the home side then upped their game and got their reward with two late strikes through Drew Copeland and Chris Angus making the final score Buckie Thistle 4 Fort William 2.

The Fort can be proud of their performance and justifiably disappointed that they didn't take anything from the game.

So, on the current showing, sneaking a few points looks a possibility this season, right?

Fort lost by the odd goal in five

Strathspey played out a seven goal thriller and only scored once

Both teams bottom with no points and Fort already fighting their way to second bottom on goal difference.

Business as usual, then and the wooden spoon is down to the games between these two, surely?

Doubtless PB will be on with more details but...

Fort lost and Strathspey won; Fort have a superior goal difference to the other lot but sit rock bottom, three points in arrears to Strathspey and one point off the second bottom team

Normal service is resumed!!
