He was the murderer in my favourite episode of Columbo...

Ah yes, the episode that includes this creepy little moment: https://youtu.be/pkAi2obw1Lo

At the time, nothing; to today's viewers, yep, just a little creepy.

It's a real shame that anyone would find that "creepy". There's nothing wrong with paying someone a compliment, whatever their age.

And in this case it set up a line in which an intelligent character wittily turns a cliché upside down.

I absolutely agree Toast, at the time it would just have been seen as a compliment cleverly worked way back in 1977.

So why are you saying it's creepy?

I'm saying how it would look to today's viewers. Middle aged married cop makes suggestive statement to possible witness/suspect during his line of work - could you get away with writing that sort of stuff today without it leading to some sort of disgrace/shame/witchunt/newspaper outrage, given the apparent age of the girl? I think not.

I am glad that this was posted in this thread as the episode he appeared (TKO from series 1) was the first episode of the show to win an award. The episode is fairly mediocre about a martial arts tournament that a friend of Garibaldi wants to enter but alongisde that there is the aftermath of the death of Ivanova's father and a rabbi (Bikel) comes from Earth to visit her.

The award came from a Jewish group and was for the positive portrayal of Judaism in television.

Ron Thorton who was responsible for the pioneering use of CGI effects for the series has a Go Fund Me page set up to cover expenses for his unspecified serious illness.

The use of CGI allowed B5 to create space battles on a limited budget whereas on DS9 about the same era they relied on model work so space battles tended to be someone looking at a monitor and describing what is happening.

So she wrote for Babylon 5 and Star Trek? Cool. I have never watched B5.

She wrote a couple of early episodes. B5 is excellent and is very rewarding. Apart from Series 5.

It's a curse like: everyone who worked on opening King Tut's tomb in 1922 are now dead. Spooky!

I am more and more convinced there is a curse. Thought Stephen Furst was brilliant and he directed several episodes. Very sad.
