Godot 149 Posted April 4, 2013 By unpopular demand this thread is to discuss topiary and topiarists, including those interested in topiary such as Monty Don, not to mention international topiarist and Belgian (famous Belgian?), Jacques Wirtz. Arguably It could be extended to other gardeners but that might make it even less popular for those concerned about meronomy. Personally it doesn't worry me.
msc 18,439 Posted April 4, 2013 Thanks Godot, I could have done with the chuckle this thread raised. Off-topic, as the only topiarist I know of was Edward Scissorhands...

Godot 149 Posted April 4, 2013 I thought topiarists made wigs... It's been known..... A "clip" from his lesser known topiary epic, Die Hard Back.
Spade_Cooley 9,515 Posted April 4, 2013 Be sure to check out the 2006 documentary "A Man Named Pearl" about the "inspiring topiary artist" Pearl Fryar.

Godot 149 Posted April 8, 2013 As yet, I am sad to say, the world of topiary seems to have had nothing to say on the passing of Baroness Thatcher. I thought there might have been a Thatcher Bush photograph somewhere on the net and indeed there was. But not quite what I had in mind. I would have thought a nice bit of box privet clipped in her likeness could make a handsome tribute. Some might suggest Yew for a change but she never favoured a yew turn. I.R.Baboon 221 Posted June 7, 2022 I only know of 2 topiarists (in fact, i didn't know about the word topiarist, i would just call them garden designers and non-native English speakers would understand me): Mien Ruys is dead and Piet Oudolf turns 78 this year. I hope someone will bring up this topic in 20 years when Piet Oudolf has died. Apart from that, very much ontopic, I enjoyed the chapter on the Ha-ha in the Encyclopedia of Stupedity because I never heard about it before and I had a hard time imagining people actually invented and designed and constructed that kind of things.
