Edit: Contrary to what those on the right (yes including you MyMango) may think, I do understand that many voted on the basis that they always voted Republican in the name of Small State and low taxes and not necessarily for the man. Also that the economy actually did better in his previous term than the succeeding democrats (though that is probably more chance than anything active). Even that his trade protectionism may be good for American jobs in the short term.

 

I still do not understand how anyone could vote for that abhorrent excuse for a human, except possibly because he was the only man in the race - which is I suppose a reason, albeit a rubbish one.

The Farmer’s protest seems to be the first time a lot of celebrities are willing to be vocal for more right wing views on social media.  Opinion polling shows the public support the protestors because as is always the case Inheritance Tax is deeply unpopular whenever it is surveyed

Re the inheritance tax on farms. 

I imagine what the government is trying to do is catch the billionaires who have bought up farmland as a tax-avoiding measure.  But setting the bar at £1m is way too low.

Similar mistake they made with the winter fuel payment - too many of the less well-off caught in the net.

I wonder if they should have done something that put the bar a lot higher for those whose ancestors have owned or worked that land as well  So the traditional farming communities and what the public think when they think of a farmer are not affected by it.

As if nobody has lied on or greatly exaggerated parts of their CV before. The arising of this story suggests they've run out of government news to attack and now have to go for relatively minor things about specific MPs. This was essentially the crux of beer gate.

It all feels like Starmer will be a one term PM before the Tories or even Reform take power in 2029.
