Guest The Newstreet Boys etc. Posted January 1, 2006 Dismal showing in my first attempt in 2005. Only had George Best and the pope. I have high hopes for my 2006 team though. I am hoping that 5) and 20) are unique picks. Esp. 5) is a great find (if I may say so myself). 1) Henry Allingham (JOKER) 2) Brooke Astor 3) Joseph Barbera 4) Ronnie Biggs 5) Lansana Conte 6) Gerald Ford 7) John Kenneth Galbraith 8) Rev Billy Graham 9) Charlton Heston 10) Saddam Hussein 11) Lady Bird Johnson 12) Dame Vera Lynn 13) Robert Mugabe 14) Maurice Papon 15) Augusto Pinochet 16) Harold Pinter 17) Mohammed Zahir Shah 18) Yitzhak Shamir 19) Alfredo Stroessner 20) Hwang Woo-Suk

Tempus Fugit 214 Posted January 1, 2006 Team name: Eejit Team members: 1) Elizabeth Bolden 2) Ray Bradbury 3) Arthur C Clarke 4) Ross Davidson (JOKER) 5) Jerry Falwell 6) Michael Foot 7) Zsa Zsa Gabor 8) Estelle Getty 9) Gary Glitter 10) Lady Bird Johnson 11) Frankie Laine 12) Jerry Lewis 13) Joe Longthorne 14) Dame Vera Lynn 15) Emiliano Mercado del Toro 16) Richard O'Sullivan 17) Peter O'Toole 18) Augusto Pinochet 19) Harold Pinter 20) Kurt Waldheim 1 & 15 are the world's oldest Woman and Man - I'm a little uncertain of them getting any kind of obituary in Britain though Unfortunately Elizabeth Bolden is no longer the world's oldest person, she's been superseded by Maria Esther Capovilla, from Ecuador. This might mean Lizzie Bolden might not get the required UK obit, but I'm guessing she probably will.
Godot 149 Posted January 2, 2006 When are we going to see the entries? Has Rude Kid been doing too much partying?
Canadian Paul 97 Posted January 2, 2006 Unfortunately Elizabeth Bolden is no longer the world's oldest person, she's been superseded by Maria Esther Capovilla, from Ecuador. This might mean Lizzie Bolden might not get the required UK obit, but I'm guessing she probably will. That was why I took Lizzie off my DDP list. I put her on Hartlepool though, since she'll probably get an U.S. obit as the oldest living United Statsian. By the way, I've seen at least two jokers for this Ross Davidson fellow? Could someone inform me as to who this is now that teams are locked in?
Sticky Threads 0 Posted January 2, 2006 Ex soap opera actor. Was on the telly a lot about 15 years ago. Has a brain tumour. Not loking good.

Sticky Threads 0 Posted January 2, 2006 Not a problem. Hope it's no more than a bad memory. Get it checked out.

Sure Ross will probably die in '06, but he really is a most insignificant actor, His imdb biog is laughable. I wouldn't even let him taint my obscure DDP team. Godot 149 Posted January 2, 2006 I agree, I felt ashamed to list him but got over it.
football_fan 42 Posted January 2, 2006 He's my joker. I also have him listed as my joker, and Eejit selected him as the joker for his team as well.

Did someone change their date of birth by deed pole?
Octopus of Odstock 2,197 Posted January 2, 2006 Bolden's only hope is outliving Capovilla, IMHO. Lansana Conte, I had on my possibles list but for someone with a "terminal illness" he seems to be doing rather well. Too much politicalization in that one to plump for him. Rude Kid 3 Posted January 2, 2006 Morning all, and Happy New Year! Long time since I've been on here. Just to let you know that the DDP2006 website's almost ready - I'm just doing some tidying-up of the data, then I'll generate and upload the '06 pages, Siegfried will close off the '05 competition, and we're away. It's been a real effort this time - 233 teams have entered and chosen 951 different celebs - so please bear with us for another day or so. As for my team: 1) Muhammad Ali 2) Henry Allingham 3) Jeremy Beadle 4) Ronnie Biggs 5) Michael Carroll 6) Ross Davidson 7) Maria Esther de Capovilla 8) Gerald Ford 9) Rev Billy Graham 10) Brian Harvey 11) Stephen Hawking 12) Norman Kember 13) Joe Longthorne 14) George Melly 15) Emiliano Mercado del Toro 16) Tammy Faye Messner 17) Ruby Muhammad 18) Harold Pinter 19) Lou Rawls (JOKER) 20) Sir Cyril Smith Some random thoughts on these: Carroll - Drugs overdose, or even suicide when it finally dawns on the moron that he's spunked all his cash away? Melly - I read an interview a few weeks ago in which he said something along the lines of "Death is knocking loudly at my door". C'mon, George, 12 months should be long enough for you to shuffle over there and open it! Smith - I could've sworn he died years ago, but apparently not - still with us at 77, albeit not quite as lardy as he used to be. That's all for now, but I'll try to be a more regular visitor to DL this year! - RK

Octopus of Odstock 2,197 Posted January 2, 2006 A few thoughts... 233 teams Nearly 1,000 'celebrities' - that the site will be up in a "few days" is nothing short of a miracle. Hopefully DDP has been helped by people, who when entering new people, put as many details as possible down. Then DL'rs won't have to list many mistakes, as hopefully there won't be so many. Unique picks may make all the difference, I guess. On two other points: IMDB is not great for British TV actors. The TV Tome page is better, IMDB is extremely US-biased. Davidson ahs done more than his IMDB page suggests. Norman Kember... if he was killed in 2005 - IF - what are the rules with that one? very interesting.... Cup of Tea 3 Posted January 2, 2006 Hes a popular one that Henry Allingham. Poor thing. I feel kind of bad about putting war veterans in. But then i think, what diference is there between putting in them to an actor or actress. The whole thing is still the same.
Paul Bearer 6,102 Posted January 2, 2006 Am I the only person NOT to have Henry Allingham in the line up?
Sticky Threads 0 Posted January 2, 2006 Nope, me neither. I have moral standards to uphold!
Octopus of Odstock 2,197 Posted January 2, 2006 I didn't put Harry Patch in on those grounds but it does look like I'm the only one that hasn't got Lou Rawls in.
