I'll finish this in a couple of weeks tops. Do ping me a list of names of footballers or actors you want me to look into and I'll happily report back what I find! @msc, Laurie Webb was a name I had come across before. He didn't appear in the above list because for each Year of Birth I only covered the 500 most clicked on profiles (and then picked out all the ones without death dates), so this project hasn't covered the entire depth of IMDb, but still a fair chunk. (The best living example being Colin Jeavons, who counted his savings after House of Cards in the early 90s and decided he'd prefer to relax for the next 30 years, and more power to him!) He created the sitcoms Shelley and It Takes a Worried Man, the latter of which he starred in. He was a great talent, and continued to write and act but hasn’t done anything since a few writing credits in 2007. I don’t think I’ve found a photograph of him from this century. On FB there is a profile that may be him but no recent pics and the person last posted in 2015. IMDb and Wiki both say born Oct 1945 in Redruth, Cornwall. There’s nobody by the surname Tilbury born in Cornwall during the period 1940–50. Either IMDb/Wiki are wrong or he was born under a different name, which would mean he’ll be much more difficult to trace. Not really much use I’m afraid, sorry. Before I continue... where did the YOB for David Kent come from? If you have a full date I could track him. And as for Battaglia, what contradicting info is it you have before I disappear down a rabbit hole? And where did your 1967 YOB come from? There's a family tree on Ancestry, and it matches the DOB (22/9/65) and DOD as listed on IMDb but it doesn't have photos or mention he was an actor. Anthony Battaglia isn't an uncommon birth name in the U.S. and there are two other NY residents – a 29 Jul 1964 birth and 17 Feb 1967 birth which could be him I suppose. The latter died in 2019 btw. I read in one of Jimmy's filmography books that it described Kent as 'years old' and gave a little background. IIRC, it was in the Californian birth Index. Battaglia was the same book. Said he was 10 years old when he did Airport 77. Its just none of the obituaries or news reports mention he was an actor. Not one. I find it hard to believe that wouldnt be picked up on. I did wonder whether to give you the younger names. I'm glad I did. Sad news (albeit he's been dead 22 years) as it's always sad to see the younger actors die. Just one find thus far: David Lindsay Hugman's / Wiki says born 29 Jun 1922 in Cambuslang, Lanarkshire, Scotland Several family trees on Ancestry, including this one here say born 29 Jun 1919 in Cambuslang, Lanarkshire, Scotland. Other info given... Parents: John Lindsay and Martha McLachlan Married: Barbara Hunter Forrester on 1 Feb 1947 in Innerleithen, Peebleshire, Scotland Notes that he worked as a professional footballer in 1947! Later worked as a sales engineer Died: 10 Apr 1987 (aged 67) in East Kilbride, Lanarkshire, Scotland. Address at time of death was 99 Burns Park, East Kilbride. Cause of death: myocardial infarction, renal failure, complications of surgery Looking at Scotland's People for verification.... There is a David Lindsay born in Cambuslang in 1919, and another born there in 1922. The one who died in East Kilbride in 1987 was aged 67 at the time, so the Family Tree on Ancestry is certainly consistent if nothing else. To prove beyond doubt that it is correct though, you'd likely have to place an order for one, if not several of the certificates above. The 1947 marriage certificate I imagine would list his profession as a footballer, along with giving you his correct age! --- Nothing on the others really. Some POSSIBLE leads: Jim Smith 1/1/1920 Bolton, EN There is a James Stanley Smith born Bolton, EN on 1/3/1920 who died in Bolton, EN c. Apr 1981. Could be him if 1/1/1920 is a mistake of 1/3/1920. You'd have to dig deeper and may be a complete waste of time as there were lots of people called James Smith born in Bolton around this period. Mike Kelly 30/11/1920 Dublin, IR There is a Michael Kelly born 1920 in Dublin who died in 1950 in Dublin, listed in family trees. No dates given but could be our guy. Wouldn't know where to start with the Irish records. I don't think they're readily available. Eric Hampson 11/11/1921 Hanley, Staffs, EN Not sure of his fate but was able to get full birth details as per the records. Above info definitely correct. His parents were Edwin and Eunice Hampson. No other info provided but most likely accurate. Here's the problem in verifying it – the GRO Index doesn't have the 1983 records (d'oh!). It starts from 1984... and on FreeBMD, this record doesn't come up either, but that's likely because FreeBMD has incomplete records for the years missing on the GRO. In order to get the full date for Hugman's, they'd be best getting in touch with the registry office responsible for Halifax and request a copy of a certificate. Worth contacting Wrexham F.C.? Surely they would have heard something? This could be verified by the GRO (as his middle name will appear there) when they finally bother to put all the 2020 records up! When that will be, I don't know. I last asked them 6 months ago and they said they didn't know when they'd be live! OR... there's the Probates. Now there is a record in there for 2020 for a Frederick Arthur Sharpe, but some reason the probate itself was registered in Liverpool. It has a date of death of 9 Apr 2020. I'm not sure if the probate would hold the age or DOB? But if Hugman's wanted to, they could call the GRO and try and place an order of a 2020 death certificate by phone. On Ancestry Family Trees, there's this: Jack Taylor b. 24 Jun 1924 Bradford, Yorkshire, England d. 6 Feb 1997 Montreal, Quebec, Canada (aged 72) Now, this is the only c. 1924 Taylor birth in Bradford I could find in the trees section that was either an exact or approx match. Problem though – Jack, not John. Now on the face of things, this would look like we've nailed him down, but I checked the birth index and the above individual was actually born in 1924 as "Jack Taylor" (rare for those days as Jack was almost always exclusively a nickname, not a birth name). Still worth considering though – did his name get bastardised down the line in League records, books etc somewhere? I can't find any old newspaper clippings about the 46-47 Bradford City team that mentions a Taylor. Is it possible someone put 2 and 2 together and got 5 i.e. saw "Jack" and just assumed he was actually "John"? Now, here's a photo of him (poor quality, sorry) after he emigrated to Canada. If you could pull out an old Bradford City pic of that specific team (again, easier said than done) then you may be able to rule this lead out or verify it that way. With regard to Irish records, they are indeed available and open to the public up to certain years (births to 1921, deaths to the 1960s) via https://civilrecords.irishgenealogy.ie/.
