deadtowrites 2 Posted March 25, 2008 Wow, what strange things you do in Holland. Searching obscure yet living ex-heads of state. Are there no other recreational activities in Holland? I thought I might give it a go too, see if it really is a fantastic buzz. Here's a sniffter of what I came up with: Gerard Batliner and Alfred Hilbe are both 80 this year and former Regierungschef of Liechtenstein. Joan Martí Alanis another soon to be octagenarian and former Bishop of Urgell, thereby former co-Prince of Andorra. (Although does he come under DDT's(?) jurisdiction, being a man of the cloth?) Luigi Lonfernini, albeit a spritely 69 years old, was the Captain Regent of San Marino. Although as their head of government is voted in every 6 months there could be many more flooding the market. I drew a blank on Transdniester, I thought it was going to be my "one big hit" however the comedown was all too sudden; they have had only the one ruler and they're not internationally recognised. However, moving on to the smaller European countries we do have Valéry Marie René Giscard d'Estaing who was President of a little known republic, France. Hence it might be difficult forseeing that "qualified UK obit".
deadtowrites 2 Posted March 25, 2008 Wow, what strange things you do in Holland. Searching obscure yet living ex-heads of state. Are there no other recreational activities in Holland? Most of the time we have. Only not in bad weather (today Holland had through bad weather his longest traffic line up ever). Jools had the great Brummie band Traffic on his line up despite half of them being dead? That's impressive.
Octopus of Odstock 2,186 Posted April 16, 2008 Not long ago I discovered while surfing through the internet that the first president of Malta (1974 – 1976) is still alive. Sir Anthony Mamo is 99 years old: I wouldn't rush to put Mamo on any list by the looks of this report:- http://www.timesofmalta.com/articles/view/...-tells-students One - he's still out & about Two - apart from obvious fraility - he looks healthy enough Three - according to the report, he still is quite a busy man. Knowing my previous recommendations, he'll be dead by the end of the week.....

Canadian Paul 97 Posted May 1, 2008 I believe he was the oldest former leader of a country, still living.Does anybody know who is it now. (Maybe the ex-president of Senegal or Suriname) Had Gabriel París Gordillo lived another month and a half, it would have been him. The oldest living former head of state is now Johan Ferrier of Suriname, with Mamadou Dia of Senegal not far behind. These lists may be of some interest to you. Octopus of Odstock 2,186 Posted May 1, 2008 The above comment about Mamo's health by myself should be stark proof as why I am doing so abysmally in the DDP
Banshees Scream 110 Posted May 13, 2008 An update on Corazon Aquino, the former president of the Philippines, who is suffering from colon cancer. She says "Never be afraid of suffering" From faith healers to undergoing chemotherapy, she is managing to halt her show down. I think she might survive. TAFKAG 70 Posted June 9, 2008 Two dead American politicians. Former Ohio legislator Gene Damschroder wiped himself and five others out in a Cessna crash, while Arizona senator Jake Flake has flaked out from a heart attack. This is the wrong thread, isn't it? Octopus of Odstock 2,186 Posted June 28, 2008 All over the world, former politicial leaders are dying. This is probably a good thing. The latest joining the great debating chamber in the sky are: Gerard Batliner, leader of Liechenstein between 1962-1970. Jean-Pierre Thystère Tchicaya, Congo President in 1979.
