I don't know whether to put this in "African Despots" or this thread, but Eswatini/Swaziland's king/despot/human rights abuser Mswati III is having a hard time with protestors:

https://www.nationalgeographic.com/history/article/africas-last-absolute-monarchy-shaken-as-protestors-defy-eswatini-king

Atleast 40 people have died in protests in the country with a population of 1 million. He reportedly uses one fourth of the nation's budget for his personal needs (and those of his mother, children and 15 wives) and not many people would be sad if he happened to die.

He's the third youngest monarch in the world (if Emmanuel Macron isn't counted for being the co-prince of Andorra) after Jigme Wangchuck of Bhutan and Tamim Al Thani of Qatar, both born in 1980.

Mangkunegara IX, Indonesia's Duke of Mangkunegara, has died. He was 69.

https://en.tempo.co/read/1493997/kgpaa-mangkunegara-ix-passes-away-in-jakarta

Interesting person. Married twice:

First to Sukarno's (1901-1970) and Fatmawati's (1923-1980) daughter Sukmawati Sukarnoputri (1951-) from 1974 to 1984. She doesn't look well nowadays. Members of the Sukarno family usually die before 70.

And from 1990 until his death to Suharto-era general Yogi Supardi's (1929-2019) and Olga Wahyu's (?-2007, victim of an accident) daughter Prisca Marina Haryogi Supardi.

One of the monarchies of the island of Java. I don't know if any of the current "monarchs" of Java have any power except Hamengkubuwono X, the Governor of the Special Region of Yogyakarta and Paku Alam X, the Vice Governor of the same region.

Someone on twitter mentioned that she's been in frail health for a while in January/February when the couple was vaccinated. Also had given up on being the President of the Liechtenstein Red Cross in 2015.

Here a couple of years ago, already looked a bit frail back then.

For the "siblings who will live to an incredible age" series we have Ashi Tashi Dorji (1923) and Queen Grandmother Kesang Choden (1930), the oldest royals in Buthan. Looked 30 years younger last December.

Notice Spain's Queen Emeritus Sofia who apparently was a good friend of Marie. Hans-Adam II looks great for a 76-year old who was recently widowed after a 54-year marriage.

Official title is "Her Majesty Queen Sofía of Spain", Queen Mother and Queen Emeritus are both used by media to show that she isn't the actual Queen of Spain anymore.

Students walk out of classes. Apparently multiple protestors have been killed, some executed. Arson, strikes and looting happening.

The King isn't willing to admit that he has done anything wrong, blaming the poverty and bad situation of the country on everyone else. Could escalate into a civil war.

King of Eswatini Mswati III has now closed schools indefinitely amid protests.

https://www.france24.com/en/live-news/20211020-african-envoys-head-to-eswatini-as-another-protester-killed

Now closes the internet. South Africa has sent a group of high-level envoys to talk some sense into the king.

How will this end?
