I hope they gave the recommended donation of (minimum) £3 for each of those poppies.

No, those aren't the same.  But you might enjoy an example of parochial meanness.  I left (as requested) some of those poppies at the pub in one of my villages, to be collected by a parish councillor.   In the accompanying message I mentioned I had left eight poppies, six for the village signs, one for the church gate and a spare one, with a gentle reminder that the suggested donation was £3 each.  Eight threes are 24, I thought, so they're bound to round it up to a pony.  He left £18.  Clearly he didn't think he needed to pay for the church and the spare.

Everybody buys more than one poppy anyway, because by the time Remembrance Sunday rolls around, they will have lost the first one they bought.  :D

Anyway I have a binload of them as I am a poppy appeal organiser.  A role that was sort of foisted on me, but I don't mind doing it.  It involves multiple visits to pubs.

Here's a good one.

As Poppy Appeal organisers, we've just been told that we are not to count the contents of our collecting tins at home, as we usually do, as this is regarded as a "social activity" and puts us at risk of catching COVID 19.  Instead, we are invited to travel to a "counting centre" (over 30 miles away in my case)  which will be "COVID secure"'.

I have told them to fuck off with that.

The only slight risk I can see is from the cash itself - not that there is likely to be much cash this year -  which would be the same wherever we are.   Gloves, sanitiser and hand-washing should take care of that.

I thought he was joking, but evidently not, Hartlepool United do indeed have a remembrance day shirt, which will be worn at next week's match v Wrexham (sadly, the order date for replicas passed last week, so we're too late).

It's produced by Irish firm O'Neill's, which has caused some controversy amongst Irish republicans.

This will be my last Poppy Appeal.  I am jacking it in because (among other issues) too much of the money raised is squandered on non-essentials.

Looking forward to getting some cupboard space back once I've passed all the tat on to someone else.

This year more than any other, you need a Captain Sir Tom poppy pin

As with all this Captain Tom stuff, his daughter is never far away (the brand manager one, not the other one)

The old fella did his bit, they all need to fuck off now.

I assume they have made commemorative coins, plates and mugs of him to be sold in the back pages of The Sun?
