Vera Wülfing-Leckie, a German-born British homeopath and translator, has died aged 66.

Her obituary was - whyever - written by her former husband:

It's the Guardian "Other Lives" section. Which is where you can submit your own obituaries (as in you are the author, not the dead person). The Guardian publishes it if the person is interesting enough.

I think they also reach out to families to collaborate on some of them.

When I contacted the Guardian last year about the death of Johnny Gregory, they responded saying they would look into it for their Other Lives section.

Quite a clever concept, not having to depend solely on the hired obituary writers means they can produce more write ups faster.

German composer Helmut Winschermann dead at 100:

http://www.asahi.com/ajw/articles/14243660

The article said "He was found dead on March 4 at his home in Bonn by a family member."

Sounds like a forgotten body.

Who? Include name of person in the post please. Also don't hyperlink all of the text – it makes your post searchable.

Fixed

First hit..phew... Uta Ranke-Heinemann, controversial theologist and our number 2, dead at 93:

https://m.tagesspiegel.de/politik/tochter-des-bundespraesidentin-wurde-93-kirchenkritische-theologin-uta-ranke-heinemann-ist-tot/27039800.html

Halleluja! Our first hit!!! In March! But better late than never!

The very first DL from 1987 (with only 31 places) had its first hit on June 2nd (Andrés Segovia), but it's not really clear if this list was released on 01.01.1987.

But this is also the DL with the latest hit ever.

Second to that is the DL of 1992, when the first hit came on March 23rd (Jim Joel).

There are 3 other DLs where the first hit of the year didn't came until March:

March 3rd, 2003 (Hardy Amies)

March 20th, 2004 (Queen Juliana)

March 6th, 2007 (Ernest Gallo)

The fastest DL is the DL of 1998, when Helen Wills Moody died right on New Year's Day.

And, of course, not to forget the least successful DL with 40 places and not a single hit: 1991.

So, the D-A-CH-DL is on its way :D

Next prominent church critic, Hans Küng, dead at 93:

While Uta Ranke-Heinemann liked to point out the sexual hypocrisy of the church, Hans Küng liked to criticise other ethical problems, including, gasp!, the papal infallibility.

Maybe a bit of a miss for us.

And a DDP pick.

At least he was on our long list but didn't receive enough votes to make the Top 50.

My dad is a big fan of Kung, read a number of his books. I had presumed Küng was long dead. Sorry to hear this.

Verdammt, I was so sure he was both on the DACH list and on mine and now looking it up it's neither.
