Ulitzer95 12,620 Posted March 6, 2023 An obit of sorts for Ed Fury from Extra TV here. In the past, the obit writers at the Hollywood Reporter have often snubbed the American bodybuilding legends who became famous through European (primarily Italian) cinema, despite the fact that this then gave them a status in the U.S. subsequently as a result. Of the bodybuilders who cut their names in the "sword-and sandal" films (1958–1965) here's who's dead and who's still around: Dan Vadis (wiki, 1938–1987) Nadir Baltimore (aka Nadir Moretti, German wiki, 1923–1997) Italian, later moved to the States then to France Steve Reeves (wiki, 1926–2000) Gordon Mitchell (wiki, 1923–2003) The oldest in the group Mickey Hargitay (wiki, 1926–2006) Gordon Scott (wiki, 1926–2007) Reg Park (wiki, 1928–2007) Richard Lloyd (wiki, 1932–2023) The only Iranian of the group Alan Steel (wiki, 1931–2015) Italian, but styled as an American Mike Lane (wiki, 1933–2015) Joe Robinson (wiki, 1927–2017) The only Brit of the group Brad Harris (wiki, 1933–2017) Reg Lewis (wiki, 1936–2021) Mark Forest (wiki, 1933–2022) Ed Fury (wiki, 1928–2023) Samson Burke (wiki, born 1929) The only Canadian of the group Peter Lupus (aka Rock Stevens, wiki, born 1932) Yann Larvor (information, born 1935) The only Frenchman of the group Kirk Morris (wiki, born 1942) Italian but styled as an American, the baby of the group Just 3–4 left from this genre (as Larvor was definitely still alive in 2008), but if I've missed anyone let me know and I'll add them to the list.
Ulitzer95 12,620 Posted March 7, 2023 Ed Fury got write ups from The Hollywood Reporter and Deadline. Pleasant surprise tbh. I thought he would get snubbed for sure.
Sir Creep 7,070 Posted April 26, 2023 Not sure where Needlars thread went. No ‘weightlifting’ thread, and she’s no Olympian. So it’ll go here. A female powerlifting champion from Belgium has died a less than a day after falling sick with a severe infection. A friend to Laura Delava wrote on Instagram that the Belgian subjunior powerlifting champion from Huy in Liège had succumbed to a sudden illness on Monday 24 April. In 24 of illness onset hours in fact. The teenager started powerlifting last summer and went on to become national champion in her category with four national records only last September, aged 17. Unlikely as she'd be 103 now, but she was still alive and in good health back in 2010, so there's a chance. Betty Brosmer is alive. Widow of Mr. Olympia founder Joe Weider. 87 this year. To add one name to Ulitzer's list on the previous page Clarence Bass is alive and 86 this year. Arthur Robin lives in Italy as far as I know. Arthur Robin died the day you posted, aged 95. arghton 6,739 Posted December 5, 2023 Makes Samson Burke the "oldest notable bodybuilder" I assume?
