Richard Parsons should be worth a cool 48 for Wormfarmer and maybe others . . . .

Looks like I missed Alwen Hughes, a hit for two players. And Sean actually picked Olivia Hussey... just to remember.

Edit: Non-obit king is msc, this time, 4 non-obits (Josip Manolic, Joe Shannon, Michelle Fazzari, Amy Ettinger).

Most hits: Perhaps with 23. Only then Cpt. Chorizo with 22.

I am always middling. Send me a DM and I can message you some people who I know have cancer or don't have long lifespan.

I appreciate your offer to help, but I have decided to not enter. My heart is not in it anymore. This will be the first year since 2011 that I don't play in a single deathpool. :o

So, what do we think? Is the deluge of delayed obits over?

Let's do a preliminary final update...

As mentioned above, I forgot to score Alwen Hughes for Yorkshire Banker and Perhaps - corrected.

Peter Procter should have been a unique hit for Summer in Transilvania back in August - also corrected.

Sean got a unique hit with legendary "Julia" Olivia Hussey, well done!

Then we get to he big hits at the end of the year: Jimmy Carter was a US president who governed from..... ah well, you know who it is. Almost everybody scores.

Johnnie Walker was a very popular replacement in the mid-year period, and actually kept his promise of dying, like, immediately after he ended his show on BBC radio.

Brenton Wood is another sexy hit for Yorkshire Banker, so his 2025 team loses Wood, but already gained Bonerz. Wood was a soul/r'n'b musician in the 60s and 70s, peaking with his first hits already in 1967 - though he had started recording a few years before. Minor hits in the 70s followed.

Michael Turner is, seemingly, Salmon Mousse's good-bye hit. The Australian Rules footballer had been diagnosed with pancreatic cancer and got the whipple surgery, you know, take out everything. It only gave him another year though.

Edit: No, Brenton Wood is a hit in 2025! So, I have to change something... Damn, I might have missed a 2024 hit, somewhere in the back of my mind.

Edit2: Well, John Amos is a missing hit for Yorkshire Banker. Maybe that was on my mind? That whole nice joke above is not true.

Manmohan Singh was a hit for three players, thanks for reminding me. He is regarded as a bit of an economic "liberator", maybe like Deng Xiaoping? It does feel like the India's recent ascent falls into his reign.

Richard Parsons was actually a unique hit for Wormfarmer. The business man started his career working for Rudy Giuliani, got into media business and worked on the legendary merger of AOL and Time Warner at the height of the dot-com bubble. He survived a couple of years with aggressive multiple myeloma.

George Eastham was a British midfielder in the 1960s and part of the WC winning English squad of 1966. Not the most prominent name, but he was there. Three teams score, among them TheImmortal who actually scores quite a bit in this update.

And finally,  the Steve DiMeglio case. He was picked by SalmonMousse, AnFearBeag and wannamaker. My position is that ambivalence will be to the detriment of the player who chose that pick. Usually, it means that if the date of birth is unclear, the lowest-possible scoring value will be used. In the case here, it means that DiMeglio would score neither in 2024 nor in 2025. It's an extreme case, unfortunately. If he scored, AnFearBeag would gain a few slots in the ranking. Wannamaker and SalmonMousse wouldn't see a change. For 2025, it means that those players who picked him, would have to sub him. It's only one team though (Banana) and their first sub is Shirley Chung. So I think I'm going to count Chung as a hit for Banana if she dies, even if the ambivalence stays. But DiMeglio would not count in 2025 unless we know he did die in 2025 - which, to be honest, will probably never be determined, as he died alone at home some time between the 23rd of Decembre and the 1st of January.

Did I miss anything? You have about three more days to complain.

But if nothing happens, the following scoreboard is the final result. Cpt. Chorizo snatches the title back from Banana in a terribly close game. Literally, every single hit mattered.

Cpt. Chorizo also shares the "most hits" achievement - now with Perhaps - at 24 hits - pretty good!

msc has 4 non-QOs, and gets that "crown".

DDP winner Thatcher only gets 12 hits. Goes to show that the DDP can be won not by obsessive research for new names, but rather by choosing the right ones out of the ones you know. Interesting, isn't it? And those with the many hits (including me), have to realize that choosing the right names out of the ones you know, is a skill of its own.

So, we wait for three more days, as the rules say, and then we'll close it up.
