French Deathlist 2024

Recommended Posts

Why a french deathlist you may ask ? Well, why not ? This site is filled with french-speaking, french enthusiasts and other french nerds who fight every year to see their favorite names included on the official list. And what a disappointment to see, year after year, that our wishes, like most of those expressed here, are not listened to by the committee (ie. Bernadette Chirac)… And as there is no such thing as an official French Deathlist site or forum (except this weird one), we began to loose hope of ever being adequately represented…

Fear not ! The official French Deahtlist is coming soon !

The little community of french deathpoolers on this site have gathered in the last few months and after many talks, endless dithering and hasty reorganization (Cf. Gerard Collomb and Emmanuel Leroy Ladurie) we came up with a list of 50 french-speaking personalities (and not exclusively french per se) whom, we think, could die in 2024.

This list was made possible thanks to the involvement of @BeretBleu @etib80, @Fantomasss@La Tombe, @thadee and I.
A special thanks to @Book whose help and example with the DACH list have greatly facilitated our task !

We will only post here in english and only on news about our 50 picks. Others news and talks about french personalities will take place in the French Speaking Deathlist thread. Every time a hit occurs, we will post it here, cross his or her name on the list on front page, and I'll make a quick recap on the deceased hit.

We hope it'll be successful and that you'll enjoy it :)

The official list will be unveiled on the eve of the 31st of december or on the morning of the 1st january. Till then…

Bonne chance !

Oupsi, I have always thought that the creator of this site could be an active Deathlist forum member but apparently it's not you

Hit n°1

Laurence_Badie.jpg.af1ac05aba8d7b7117207327eb0f6aab.jpg

Extinction de voix

French actress Laurence Badie has died aged 95 to provide the french deathlist with its first success. Badie was born in Boulogne in 1928 and began her career in the theatre aged 19. She quickly turned to film, playing along with the most famous actors and actresses of the time such as Louis de Funès, Claude Gensac and even Kirk Douglas in Lust of Life (1956). After that, she became a recurrent boarder of the Académie des Neufs, a french cult TV Game of the 80's. She also was famous for her distinct high-pitch voice which she used for decades while dubbing some of the most famous sitcoms and cartoons of the times (such as Vera in Scooby Doo). She was selected this year at number 38 and becomes the first french deathlist hit ever. A quick and surprising one which, we hope, is just the beginning of a long serie.

Edgar Morin to publish a book lost over 40 years ago

Line Renaud crying over the fact Françoise Hardy can't get legal euthanasia

Phillipe Bouvard looking and sounding as sharp as a 80 yo man 3 weeks ago and coming back to the Grosses Têtes with Laurent Ruquier

Florent Pagny saying he doesn't have the control over his cancer anymore

Frédéric Mitterrand gains a ton of weight amid cancer (?) battle

André Chandernagor now wheelchair-bound but still out and giving speeches

Judith Magre and Pierre Richard (and Popeck) still in theatre

Charles Dumont giving interviews about Edith Piaf but looking quite rough

Also, just realized that Micheline Presle is quite similar to Olivia de Havilland and Roland Dumas quite similar to Henry Kissinger in terms of position in their field, age and notoriety in France.

Judith Magre, French comedian on screen and in theaters ages very well, she is 97, and is still active.

She was interviewed on French TV, tonight :

I shouldn’t have had her on my deathlist these year. She is in good condition and can easily go through 2024 and 2025.

At this point in time, I see at least 17 hits for the French Deathlist 2024 including Badie, De Gaulle, Dumas, Morin, Le Pen, Malaurie, Chirac, Page, Pagny, Mitterrand, Fontaine, Villalonga, Vernon, Serre, Géminiani, Darrigade and Guillemin.

However, some notable omissions and good possibilities for next year are:

Phillippe Leroy- 93

Gerard Depardieu- 75

Leslie Caron- 92

Pierre Vernier- 92

Jean Sorel- 89

Brigitte Auber- 98

Anouk Aimée- 91

Yvonne Furneaux- 97

André Oumansky- 90

Sophie Grimaldi- 87

Pierre Richard- 89

Jacques Charrier- 87

Richard Bohringer- 81

Jacques Dutronc- 80

Jean-Pierre Castaldi- 79

Sami Frey- 86

Yes but yet, there was only one hit for these month of January, Laurence Badie. My personal Deathlist scores at O at this time.

Jean Malaurie dead at 101. 2nd hit. Obit to come

Picked by a 1922 theme team, so one to watch for a DDP QO.

Malaurie was so popular in the early 50s and so forgotten now that he reminds me of Charles F. Muntz from Up.

The Great Expedition

French explorer, anthropologist and geograph Jean Malaurie has died aged 101 and marks the second hit for our french common deathlist. Malaurie was born in Mainz, Germany in 1922 and studied at the Institute of Geography in Paris. He embarked for two French Antarctic Expedition in 1948 and 1949, the firsts of thirty-one expeditions between Groenland and Siberia. His 1955 book "Les Derniers Rois de Thulé" was traduced in more than 20 languages and rapidly became a reference about inuit people. He worked for a while between France and Russia, leading the first soviet-french expedition in Siberia in 1990. Defender of arctic minorities, he fought against globalization which he though was a risk for small cultures and diversity and even became a consultant for the United States, Danemark, Canada and Russia. Up until his death, he was also a UNESCO goodwill ambassador. His passing marks a significant loss, especially for deahtlist which now counts "only" seven centenarians. He was awarded the 9th spot this year and is the second hit of our list.
