Who Should Be On The Deathlist 2025?

Recommended Posts

@tracy as you are one of my heroes on this forum along with @Thatcher for your death notices are you in a position to provide a list of suggestions/ideas?

I posted some names a few pages ago. If I was in charge of the DL, I think my 25 new names, off the top of my head, would be something like:

  1. David Attenborough
  2. Sidney Cooke
  3. Len Deighton
  4. Antonia Fraser
  5. Frank Gehry
  6. Berry Gordy
  7. Lee Grant
  8. Tippi Hedren
  9. Douglas Hurd
  10. David Irving
  11. Sophie Kinsella
  12. Tom Lehrer
  13. Ken Livingstone
  14. Jim Lovell
  15. José Mujica
  16. Rupert Murdoch
  17. Yoko Ono
  18. Joan Plowright
  19. Dan Rather
  20. Eva Marie Saint
  21. Ian Smith
  22. Johnnie Walker
  23. James Watson
  24. Harvey Weinstein
  25. Peter Yarrow

The present list being a trainwreck, and the lack of many new certs, puts a real damper on things. I expect a lot of misses. However, with something like the above and whichever 25 they keep I wouldn't think ~15 hits is impossible.

Risky bet but...Michael Bolton?

A few brain tumor communities I am in or have visited have judged he's likely suffering from a more severe brain tumor (well, brain cancer) especially due to the emergency surgery, visible weakness and confusion on stage last year.

His O2 show was postponed with a full year around the summer and seems that back in October nearly all his shows, atleast all before July 2025, were postponed indefinitely.

There's also this health update his nephew provided in August that feels a bit ominous:

“He’s the strongest person I know. I mean, honestly, he is determined. Every day he’s getting better,” Adam told EW. “He communicates so much with his eyes, and the power that’s behind them is just reassuring to everybody that this man is built out of something special.”

He later clarified to EW that Michael is still able to speak and sing, and added, “He is well and recovering very well.”

(He was also seemingly unable to send a video message)

Anyways, he has not given any details to the public about what type of brain tumor he has, god knows when his last appearance anywhere was and from a quick look on his Facebook and Instagram I get a feeling he might not be managing his own social medias anymore.

Conclusion: I hope I am wrong and have missed something, but it feels like he is either:

1) terminally ill, family is avoiding media attention and the July 2025 O2 show will again be postponed around March or April if he's alive.

2) Not ill, but not the same as he was before - perhaps a massive benign tumor that fucked something up.

How is he supposed to live without you? :D

Annoyingly I always got him and Richard Marx mixed up for no apparent reason. Even more annoyingly, Bolton doesn't start having UK top 30 hits until 1990, so not a qualifier for next year's TOTP team!

(Still not decided whether to continue with this team into the 90s or go back to 1980 from 2026. Always assuming I'm still kicking in a year!).

I'm doing my short-list now and 10 minutes ago he came into my head.

I've seen Douglas Hurd mentioned several times here, but what specific health problems does he have?

I remember someone on here saying something about Alzheimers a while back bur I have never seen anything more than that about his health.

He is mentioned a lot I think because not only is he due to turn 95 in March but he was a household name in Britain. He was also very active in public life regularly appearing in public and giving interviews then nearly 10 years ago now he resigned from the House of Lords and has not been heard from since. He was passionately against Brexit and spoke out against the idea before the referendum but to my knowledge never commented  after the referendum as by that time he retreated from public life.

I saw him about three years ago on the Celebrity Dating Game where he was the pianist and singer, and I noticed he had a tremor throughout, I was leaning towards Parkinson's or maybe a brain tumor, and I've noticed this in other appearances over the past five years as well. Not the biggest fan, but it's still unfortunate.

Ronnie Wood definitely looks to be more gaunt than usual. I know they did pick him previously in 2018 when he publicly announced his cancer, but I feel like he could be a sneaky boomerang pick for the Deathlist.
