Who can't speak on this issue? The guy trying to shut down the discussion because he knows he's wrong.

You baselessly accused me of being Russian, and again you know utterly nothing about the Russian empire, Soviet Union, or the current fascist russian state, so log off and never speak on anything again.

News reports here and here. His DOB has long been up for debate. His Wiki page used to say 1926, it now says 1934 but 1929 seems to look like the "official" one.

The KCNA announced his death just over 10 years ago, on 5 May 2014. Let's hope he doesn't resurrect again this time.

Here's Kim at the funeral. Googling his Korean name there are other images from the funeral online.

Edit: That same image is on one of the news reports mentioned above too, never mind.

Propaganda boss of the regime for decades. Good riddance.

NK's "old guard" has been dropping like flies in the last years. From the 12 names mentioned by drol in the Kim Jong-un thread almost exactly three years ago only Kim Yong-nam (96), Choe Yong-rim (93) and Pak Ui-chun (88 or 91) are alive. Kim "Tape Recorder" Yong-nam seems the most likely to go next considering how he looked extremely frail and ill in his appearances last year.

I did do a search for Kim Ki-nam and results came there none, probably due to the shortness of the individual parts of his name. Apologies to @drol I see the post now in Jong-un's thread.

Nevertheless, I prefer this little thread for Communists. Don't get them terribly often these days! Or maybe we do, but they are submerged into politicians or other threads.

He is getting huge coverage. Every item on KCNA is now about him, and he got the first page of Rodong Sinmun while KJU is on the second. He got WaPo, AP and even BBC obits. Most of the North Korea we know stems from his sick fantasies.

The official obituary mentions he had been suffering from multiple organ failure for more than two years, which seems kind of "fucking finally dead" even on their part.  He was hospitalised in April 2022, when COVID hit the country. Around that period Yang Hyong-sop and Hyon Chol-hae died, he likely was stuffed on life support for the remaining two years.

Kim Yong-nam and Choe Yong-rim are now the remaining elders. Don't know if they are on Kim's funeral committee.

I'm not sure if it is correct to describe North Koreans as "commies". The regime follows Kimilsungism–Kimjongilism, a synthesis of the ideas of Kim Il Sung and Kim Jong Il. Its guiding ideology is Juche, which is a philosophy of self-sufficiency. Although originally Communist in 1945, I think they have largely moved away from that over the years into more of a cult tied into a specific family/person.

Kim Ki-nam was a Commie though.

Many Commie regimes have come and gone, so the question is do you have to die a Commie to be in this thread? Vietnam as I understand it has moved somewhat from its pure Commie philosophy, for example. Some folk may have been members of Communist parties across the world, even leaders, only to move away from pure Communism or even become - lawd - Socialists.

I defer of course to those who know better.

Fair point this guy was indeed a commie for a large part of his life.

For Kim Jong-Un though, he probably doesn't even know what communism is, since he's the one who gets all the pies.

Stasi general Werner Großmann dead at 92. Schwanitz, Modrow and Krenz are still alive.

Modrow is still active. Krenz is still active too, looks a bit frail (very pale, car crash a few years ago) but still active (and a putinite asshole) and released a new book last year with his 99-year old lawyer Friedrich Wolff.

German lawyer Friedrich Wolff (Wikidead at 101

For over 20 years was the chairman of the Berlin Bar Association in the GDR

Soviet relic Kallibek Kamalov, leader of the Karakalpak ASSR for 20 years (1963-1984), made a rare appearance (and did a speech) at an event of Uzbekistan dictator Shavkat Mirziyoyev's "Liberal" "Democratic" Party either last week or earlier this week:

97 years old. Looks slightly better than that corpse next to him, likely another Soviet relic but I can't recognize him.

Recentish image of Kallibek Kamalov, decrepit relic and longtime head of Karakalpak Autonomous Soviet Socialist Republic, from Facebook:

Seems to have declined quite sharply in the last year.

Edit: Should be the oldest living Soviet politician after Boris Kravtsov (1922), Nizoramo Zaripova (1923) and Lev Vasilyev (1925-2023). There's some I'm not 100% sure are alive, most notably Gennady Voronovsky (1924), politician/military commander Mikhail Popkov (1924-2023), Nikolay Shubnikov (1924) and former Central Committee member Raisa Dementyeva (1925-2022). Dementyeva if still alive would be one of the two or three still living 25th central committee members.

Are Song Binbin (1949) and Steel Warrior Mai Xiande (1945) the last living great heroes of Mao-era propaganda?

Lovely Song Binbin dead at 77.

Daughter of one of the Eight Immortals, Song Renqiong, she beat her headmaster to death with a stick in 1966. Instead of being punished, she became a symbol of the cultural revolution, and appeared on stage with Mao himself. Thousands of teachers were butchered throughout the country.

She never paid for her deeds, but (weakly) apologized in 2014.

Good riddance, a welcome death.

From the quote, Steel Warrior Mai Xiande is still alive, although not such a big name he has a very interesting story and is even slightly likable. During the Battle of Dong-Yin (1965) he was an electromechanical engineer on frigate and was hit by a shrapnel from a torpedo, but despite a massive damage to the brain (see below) he allegedly stayed at his post for 3 hours.

No idea how that is survivable, but he'll be 80 next year.

RE Song Binbin I suggest everyone to watch Though I Am Gone (wiki), a Chinese documentary on Bian's (the headmaster) murder and the delirium called "Cultural Revolution".
