lospalmas7 12 Posted April 13, 2005 Welcome softcelluk1, and congratulations. He or she is our 400th forum member. regards, Hein You've obviously scared them off posting! Can someone please explain what it means by 'Member No.' on the left? It would appear that Boudicca is member number 456. How does this work?

Cerberus 304 Posted April 14, 2005 We're waiting for someone to solve the mystery. Questy is apparently member number 490, yet it says at the foot of the page that we have 400 members. We need softcell1 to say something, even if it's just "hello" to ascertain their "alternative" number. Then they can wave goodbye if they wish. We've already established that the forum was re-jigged (?) in 2003, which is the earliest date that anyone is shown as having joined, but it's clear that some members were on here long before that. So who was member number one? And is number 6 Patrick McGoohan? I think we should be told.

Death Watch Beatle 41 Posted April 14, 2005 Perhaps I can shed some light on the membership number conundrum. When a new member is registered they are automatically allocated the next number in the series. When members are struck-off for whatever reason, their number is not reissued. Back in early 2004 we had a large number of bogus members join who never posted, so it order to maintain some kind of security, the members were struck-off, hence the number of members is lower than the number of issued memberships. Does that make any sense at all? DWB
lospalmas7 12 Posted April 14, 2005 Thanks DWB. That made perfect sense. Now all we have to worry about is getting softcelluk1 to say something.
Tuber Mirum 125 Posted April 14, 2005 Thanks DWB. That made perfect sense. Now all we have to worry about is getting softcelluk1 to say something. If I might be allowed to offer a suggestion, issuing softcelluk1 with some kind of threat, perhaps by way of a Personal message, could possibly have the desired effect. I think Mr Jury would do the best job of putting the Fear of God up our newest member.
Terminator 13 Posted April 14, 2005 I think Mr Jury would do the best job of putting the Fear of God up our newest member. That's true..... You could imagine OMJ calling his "member", the "Fear of God".
Guest One Man Jury Posted April 15, 2005 I think Mr Jury would do the best job of putting the Fear of God up our newest member. Maybe, but I don't think he'd swallow that. Unlike his hero, of course.

BTW it's Guesty not Questy. According to the JavaScript that appears in the bottom bar of the browser (when moving the pointer over their name); Softcelluk1 is user no.

DWB So what you are saying to us oh great and revered one, is that 'We have 400 registered members' which tells us that there may have been persons here at various times who are no longer here and that the message on the main page refers to currently registered members . I was wondering, is there a time frame given where a person must post before they are removed or is removal based solely on other factors?
Tuber Mirum 125 Posted April 16, 2005 So we should be congratulating Mr or Mrs longmayshereign for being the 500th member instead of terrorising poor old softcelluk1 who has obviously and understandably done a runner.
Magere Hein 1,400 Posted April 17, 2005 [...]poor old softcelluk1 who has obviously and understandably done a runner. I must admit that I feel bad about that. A bit. BTW, I've noticed that it happens quite often that there's a considerable gap between registration and first post. Mine lasted a month and a half. regards, Hein
