Earl Gloomy 7 Posted July 19, 2005 Well, not on Deathlist but plenty in the "Real World".Tony Blair said he was a Giant or something. Even Mrs T said something nice (through gritted teeth I suspect). Probably through the gritted teeth of the prson who wrote it for her, in the way in which she would have said it.

Dr Strangelove 14 Posted July 22, 2005 On the subject of the ongoing enmity between Mrs T. and sailor boy Ted, I saw an interesting article in yesterdays Evening Standard. (Itself based on an article in The Spectator.) ..."I really liked her then," Heath told Frederick Mocatta, editor of the Eton College Chronicle, when talking about Mrs T's time as a member of his Cabinet. "She had charm and was very clever... the reason for our enmity is her, and her alone... I made her by appointing to the Shadow Cabinet and having her appointed to the Cabinet." According to Mocatta, 18, who probed further than more experienced interviewers have dared, Heath regarded her 1975 leadership challenge as "a betrayal in the extreme". "I asked him why he saw it as such," writes Mocatta, "and it became evident that he believed he had given her a foothold, and that the betrayal was as much because she had politically scalped him, as that she had changed the direction of the Conservative Party." millwall32 114 Posted July 25, 2005 Give it a few months and he will definetly be posthoumously outed. I do know that he spent a number of years living with a male opera singer and that a great deal of the hostility felt toward him by Thatcher's Ministers was homophobically motivated. I think only his extreme grumpiness and the threat of litigation kept prying journalists away while he was alive. "A LONG TERM BACHELOR" "NEVER SETTLED DOWN" "A FEW UNSUCESSFULL RELATIONSHIPS WITH WOMEN" "SACRIFICED FAMILY LIFE IN FAVOUR OF HIS CAREER" etc, etc. The discreet euphamisms won't be used now that he is in the great sailboat in the sky
satboy 2 Posted July 25, 2005 He wasn't very ambitious then, was he? If he was clever, he'd have found someone with a low libido and a desire for the trappings of office to "marry". Helen Clark, the NZ PM, used that tactic to great success. Allegedly.
millwall32 114 Posted July 25, 2005 Ah but.....Ted was not one for a positive PR spin. I think he was almost defying the press to out him. Also he was such a private (grumpy?) man that even a professional beard would have got fed up with him. And then you would have an even bigger scandal "Former PM divorces". satboy 2 Posted July 25, 2005 Satboy: Is there a web site dishing the dirt on Helen Clark? Not specifically, but most right of centre blogs in NZ (kiwiblog.co.nz, nzpundit.co.nz) tend to refer to her marriage in italics for some reason. We've got a General Election in a couple of months now; no doubt the term childless will be used between now and then.
millwall32 114 Posted July 26, 2005 Thatcher looked to be in rude good health at Heath's funeral yesterday. I think its also fair to assume that she got an energy boost (and possibly a pension boost) from Dennis' passing.

Think she looks about 60. Undoubtedly the mind is gone but the body, unnatractive though the thought is, could live on for years.
