Guest iain Posted July 18, 2005 Both Gretchen and Edward died soon after celebrating their birthdays. Any celebs on the list coming up to a birthday should be worried! Michael Foot is 92 on saturday. So it could be one Foot in the grave before too long then!
Clive's NOT Dunn 7 Posted July 18, 2005 Another obvious headline: "Dead Heath" or perhaps "Dead Heat-h" DWB Heath beneath?
Captain Oates 21 Posted July 18, 2005 Sir Edward Heath sails over the horizon! Into the sunset....
Anubis the Jackal 77 Posted July 18, 2005 Shame his death wasn't more violent, we could have had 'Blasted Heath'
Dr Strangelove 14 Posted July 18, 2005 Don't forget that Grim Reaper is always on the look out for a snappy headline when someone dies. So post your suggestions ASAP before he gets here! I think something simple like: "Ted's Dead!" should do it! DWB Perhaps something along the lines of his "Who governs Britain?" gaffe before calling an election. (and then losing.) Seriously though Ted Heath's brief reign was before my time, so I've been reading the obits and stories with interest. The funniest thing I've found so far is that in the first budget of her Premiership Mrs T. put VAT on yachts.

Poetry Man 2 Posted July 18, 2005 AN ODE TO SIR EDWARD HEATH Bye Bye Sir Ted, you was PM, I met you once, you said: "Young man live long and serve your country, Don't lie around in bed". You won the Admiral's Cup one year, In a Yacht called Morning Cloud, What a shame your time as PM ended In a gloomy dark mean shroud. You laughed a lot, and "hee-haw-heed" And your shoulders you would shrug, But we all knew you and Mrs T, Would never ever hug. So now you are gone, and I'm still here, And I am doing the best I can, So "Ship Ahoy", and "Hoist that Brace" Cos I knew you, your Poetry Man. PS: Edward Heath and I did meet, and he did say "Young man live long and serve your country, Don't lie around in bed". Many years later I met him in the offices of The Spectator and I remembered him; he did not remember me.
Windsor 2,233 Posted July 18, 2005 Might I say that that was a very touching tribute to the late Sir Edward Heath. Come to think of it, its the only tribute I've seen for him.
themaninblack 2,112 Posted July 18, 2005 Suggestion for tagline -Yesterday's Man (or is that a bit too politically esoteric? Watch Michael Cockerills BBC2 tribute to see it mentioned!)
BrunoBrimley 86 Posted July 18, 2005 Might I say that that was a very touching tribute to the late Sir Edward Heath. Come to think of it, its the only tribute I've seen for him. What the blazes are you babbling about? He got a ton of tribute just by having made it to the 50 possibles for the year. Really, how much more of a tribute could, would or should one person be in need of?
Windsor 2,233 Posted July 18, 2005 Oh sorry - just trying to be polite. I was merely saying that there is a lack of REAL tributes to him.
Dr Strangelove 14 Posted July 19, 2005 Oh sorry - just trying to be polite. I was merely saying that there is a lack of REAL tributes to him. Well, not on Deathlist but plenty in the "Real World". Tony Blair said he was a Giant or something. Even Mrs T said something nice (through gritted teeth I suspect).
Anubis the Jackal 77 Posted July 19, 2005 Even Mrs T said something nice No doubt the world stopped turning on its' axis for a second there.
Windsor 2,233 Posted July 19, 2005 Do you suppose that the shock of actually being nice might kill Baroness Thatcher? Or the wild party she held after hearing the news.
Mortician 2 Posted July 19, 2005 I think a stake through her undead heart is the only chance for her to go. Bad year for Catholics and Politicians so far - what chance Gerry Adams arriving fast on the rails?
