Dead Drummers

Recommended Posts

Luton Town lose one of their few fans.

Crikey, he wasn't even 40 when I saw Pavement back in the day. He seemed so old! I guess he was compared to everyone else. A strange man - very much not sober at the time - I remember him giving out Bonios to the audience at Leeds Duchess Of York. I can imagine his antics must have got very tiresome for the rest of the band, but he had a good heart. RIP.

WASP close to getting a call up in my 1987 TOTP team but didn't hit the UK Chart Top 30 until 1989.

And I believe I have just been ninja-ed while typing.

Lengthy post on a well-informed Beatle social media page this morning that - frankly - admits the whereabouts and continued existence of Jimmy Nicol (b.1939) remain a mystery. Wiki considers him alive, though also notes the death rumours began in 1988. As and when his death is confirmed (best guesses are he is still alive and in Mexico) it's a shoo-in of coverage, mainly because of his two weeks as a stand-in Beatle, including eight gigs, whilst tonsillitis laid Ringo low.

Helix drummer Greg ‘Fritz’ Hinz has died at the age of 68. Hinz joined the Canadian hard rock band in 1982 and remained until 1996, then returned in 2009. He’d been diagnosed with cancer in 2023.

What's incredible is that despite the many recent deaths from Helix (huge turnover of personnel) this is the first mention on the Forum of the Canadian band that reached the toppermost of the UK charts...wait, #91 with Heavy Metal Love.
