Having had a few years to think about it, can we now give Dickie credit for being the first UK celeb to show a studied dislike of Meghan Markle?

Were we aware that Joan Plowright was a resident of Denville Hall? Guardian reporting she died there.

Denville seems to get more of the nobs, with Brinsworth housing the hoi polloi. When Dicky gets his inevitable knighthood*, he’ll hotfoot it to Northwood, no doubt.

*For services to charity - he’s been nobly living off it for over 20 years.

What are the criteria for admittance to these homes? Based on being Olivier's widow, her own earnings, and that huge house we saw in the dames documentary, I doubt Plowright was reliant on charity. Can you just opt into spending your last days surrounded by your peers, provided you can pay the fees yourself?

I believe, like private schools, it’s a bit of a mix of both. Most will pay their own way, but others are helped to a degree due to its charity nature.

I think Brinsworth might have more subsidised patients than Denville.

Yes I can see that being the case.

Richard Attenborough and his wife both resided there. He owned numerous estates and had an extensive art collection that was easily worth millions. I'm fairly certain both could have opted for private in home care if they chose, so I suspect there is no income limit to the facility.
