Ideas and Possibilities for 2006

Antoni de la Puertino, one of Portugal's most celebrated novelists, is in dire health. At the age of 92, he is expected to die shortly. Although he may not be famous in the English speaking world, I would expect his death to be reported in many Latin countries.

It would be typical for the world's most underated band to live to a ripe old age, while lesser talents cop it early and get coverage ad infinitum in the glossy music mags.

I seem to remember Dave Davies having a stroke a year or two ago.

Ray Davies was shot a few years ago of course but he looks very well now

Ray was shot in the leg while he was visitng one of his favourite cities, New Orleans. A nice topical link.

Tony seems to be all right for the time being. He's 80, whereas his father lived to be 83, and his grandfather died aged 72 which was well above average for 1922.

On the one hand Tony has been a heavy smoker all his life, in 1981 he suffered from Guillan-Barré syndrome, a debilitating nerve condition which had the unpleasant side effect of making him fall over and hurt himself. And I think his wife died recently.

But on the other hand, he is a vegetarian, an alleged teetotaller, and looks to be still as fit and active as he was twenty years ago.

I would give him a couple of years yet.

And he was never a communist.

Anybody who has consistently pissed off America for 50 years can't be all bad.

I think Fidel will have a few years yet... Raul on the otherhand... defo 2006 :dead::referee:

Interesting call. I suppose he'll pass the famousness test. He's 74, five years younger than Fidel. What do you know about him that makes you think he'll die next year?

regards,

Hein

Benn describes himself as a 'Christian Socialist'.

I'd be very surprised if he drops dead anytime soon, he regularly pops up on TV and seems in good nick....

Might have been a blessing in disguise. Suppose he'd escaped being shot and kept on spending a lot of time in New Orleans. He'd probably be bobbing face down next to Fats Domino now.

This person is a Google Whack. Total Zilch.

Even Amazon doesn't know the name Puertino.

Nice wind-up.

Hein

His health has been on a rapid decline in recent years, he's been seriously ill and has withdrawn from public life... Obviously the Cubans are tight lipped about it but a £50 at Ladbrookes is already on by me... we'll see :referee:

A sad thought but is Bob Newhart (b.1929) a good bet for next year?

Bob Dole b. 1923 might be a good possibility for next year. The 1996 Republican nominee and former senator has been looking and sounding a bit frail lately. I know that he fell early this year and had hip replacement surgery.

Well since the theme is Bob's I'm a hoping and a praying

that the Boomtown Prat himself is gonna die.

Fat chance though, Geldof is fast becoming the new McCartney.

Not a bad choice Gracie. I didn't really think he was so up in age though.

He would certainly pass the famous test making one of these lists but

i suppose as far as presidental elections go he wasn't the favorite compared

to Bill Clinton. Anyhow he sounds like a good possibility.

Ken Clarke may be an outside bet for '06.

Being overweight, a smoker and heavy drinker. Combined with the pressure of running for the Tory leadership. He could have a coronary.

With all of the posting about the health of Coretta Scott King, one begins to wonder about the status of Ethel Kennedy, the other woman who's husband was assassinated in that awful year of 1968.

Though they would be random ideas for 2006 they are

fairly good picks. Espeacialy Coretta Scott King.

Now that Ecstasy is at a record low price would shite, possibly disabled, popstar Brian Harvey be eligible for a place on the 2006 list?

He has twice attempted suicide and now that he may never walk again could his depression spiral to the ultimate low?
