Lady Grendel 139 Posted October 26, 2005 It can be deaths, It can be arguments, It can be the glory ofbecoming a Post - Twunt... Share your Memorable times. Memorable or embarrassing? Think I have had more of the latter but one that incorporates both was my first post, spending months reading the DL I finally decided to join, spent that day worrying what to post and ended up rabbiting on about some dream I had had the night before (it was true though, honestly), an excruciatingly embarrassing moment for me. Windsor 2,235 Posted October 26, 2005 My most memorable times were during my two 'hate threads'. I'm quite proud of them. I've only been here since July. But now that DWB is here, perhaps he could make a more memorable time by changing 'w' into 'W'.
Grim Reaper 186 Posted October 26, 2005 The clear highlight of DL for me is September 1997 and the uncontrollable spate of deaths which followed Princess Di's death. Mother Theresa , Jeffrey Barnard , President Mobutu and Burgess Meredith - all successful DL hits within the space of a week and starting just a few days after Di's departure. That was all starting to get pretty spooky and surely a sequence that can never be matched.
Death Watch Beatle 41 Posted October 26, 2005 A thoroughly embarrassing episode early in my DL career involved me posting a candidate suggestion only to be told by all and sundry that they had been dead for years. After a while the post slipped down the list, and using my mighty admin. powers I banished it forever. I have genuinely forgotten who this dead person was, if I remember I will let you know. Windsor 2,235 Posted October 26, 2005 I'm so happy. This is my new most memorable moment. I've grown quite attached to this avatar but I suppose I shall change it.
Death Watch Beatle 41 Posted October 26, 2005 In a similar vein, I once asked the actress Dulcie Gray how her husband Michael Denison was, only to be told by her he had died in 1998! Dulcie Gray was born in 1919, so old enough for a DL thought. No idea how her health is though, this happened about 4 years ago now, and I still cringe at the thought of it. DWB - Many times ago BS - formally Advisor thought Morey Amsterdam could be a deathlist canidate. http://www.deathlist.net/forums/index.php?...morey+amsterdam Also i discovered an ancient ice hockey player who apparently was ancient but was dead for 46 years. http://www.deathlist.net/forums/index.php?...p;hl=ice+hockey Though with my luck there was conversation in this thread since he passed on his birthday.. Boudicca 702 Posted October 26, 2005 I have to confess that my most memorable action as a moderator was deleting a post made by a good friend. It was the weekend and I had missed the original content, but I noted, come morning, that it had been edited down to a bare ........ The late-night post must have been completely horrific! To this day, I wonder which atrocity was contained within said post.

Banshees Scream 110 Posted October 26, 2005 My most memorable DL moment would have to be either Ronald Reagons death or Pope John Pauls. I remember logging on the computer and reading a quick article on how Reagons health was failing dramatically. I then got up and turned on CNN to find 1911 - 2004! I then went right back to the computer and looked at the same article which was changed to "President Reagon has died" How fast the internet really is.. Pope John Pauls was more way overdue. I remember just waiting to here the news on his demise, since it was exspected. Once i heard the people of the vatican say "It would be a blessing if he passed" then i knew he was done for. I remember a very dark rainy day and then once i heard the news of the Popes death, i logged on to www.deathlist.net saw his obituary, blasted some classic rock from my computer and ordered some fast food since it was truely a celebration. Memories i shall never forget.

Tuber Mirum 125 Posted October 26, 2005 When I first joined, being pissed off by Weatherman was the thing. There were a lot more Captains around back then than there are now, that I remember clearly. That was quite good fun. Then it all went out of fashion and we had a sort of a Golden Age of Banter with Josco, LP3, T4H, ATJ, and later Amanda. Then a whole lot of new people joined and it all got quite lively and a bit different. But no worse. Hard to say what the very bestest bit has been. There's always something new and surprising coming round the corner from where you least expect it. It's possible to learn a lot from Deathlist. As Josco once said, and Magere Hein is so fond of quoting: "It's not just entertainment, it's an education." Strangely enough, the deaths are probably the least memorable bit. My first DL death was Princess Alice. I had to look it up. I still don't know who she was.

Could I bribe you with the offer of a DeathList mug? Will it be filled with wine Would it be more on an apologie if she filled it with scotch? Well it would have to be a decent malt whisky perhaps some Talisker or Bunnahabhain with just a small dash of water, and just for the record it is NOT called scotch in Scotland, that's the most annoying thing about American films etc 'scotch', it's whisky, it is like calling brandy 'French' to a Frenchman, even that's not right because we are Scots not Scotch. Scotch is tape! sorry, rant over.
Tuber Mirum 125 Posted October 26, 2005 No it isn't. Scotch is broth. Or mist. Sellotape* is tape. Or Durex if you are an Australian. *Sometimes pronounced Seal-o-tape.

For example, Some people call a sandwhich a wedge? Some call it a sub? Though overall it's a pleasure to eat. In the end it doesn't matter.

"That which we call a sandwich by any other name etc.." I suppose that's what Shakespeare really wanted to say, but "sandwich" didn't scan properly.

It does matter to a certain degree BS, because the word 'scotch' which is American for whisky, has become a name for the people of Scotland in the eyes of some Americans, we are not 'scotch', we are Scots or Scottish. By the way, Glaswegian for a sandwich is a 'piece'!

I suppose that's what Shakespeare really wanted to say, but "sandwich" didn't scan properly. Maybe that's why they started calling it a 'wedge?: Thou needeth not love nor knowledge When thou canst munch a tasty wedge I think I came across that in one of his lesser-known sonnets. in eternum+ 22 Posted October 26, 2005 Hmmm I think I'm still waiting for my most memorable DL moment. Is that a sleight on my poetic sensibilities? Oh well, Poetry Man I am not. I personally have yet to have a 'best' moment and/or memory. Not that every moment spent in the company of you all isn't good enough, of course...
