Some people will say, it's just chemicals and proteins, etc.... And eventually, you wonder why the universe exists at all. The lazy answer is that if it wouldn't exist, nobody would be asking the question. Maybe there is no why, maybe it's just "it is because it must be". We're here purely by some kind of enormous accident of nature, and I never really see the question of 'why' as particularly worthwhile.
