Cue 1000s of twats on Twitter posting predictable statuses like “O M G I just saw that David Attenborough was trending and my heart literally sank!!!!1111”

And not a few here is a distinct possibility if history is anything to go by.

OMFG! When I saw a new post in the David Attenborough thread my heart literally sank! Wrap that man up in cotton wool and keep him safe!

Lovely to see in the cynical world of 2024 that someone with his passion and intelligence is still lauded so much. A true national treasure.

He reminds me of another great, James Lovelock, so that could see him make 2029.

Still gets around a fair bit for his age. He was in Little Eaton in Derbyshire (my neck of the woods) the other week to unveil a blue plaque to commemorate his grandfather who designed the local school.

I always wanted to stalk him as he went to all the interesting places in the world.

I wouldn't want to be a wildebeest if he was filming anywhere near me...

Why is he not at #1 position at this point?

Because why should he be? Old age is not a reason to be number 1, plus he is in good health, that we know of, for a 98 year old.

I had no reason at this point to put him on any of my pools for now either

Apart from being 98 he's not really in the worst of health. I would have had Noam Chomsky at the top spot personally but it seems the committee are going to keep Van Dyke first until he dies.

That's a question you could ask for many picks on the list and the answer to all of them is the DL doesn't care about who takes which spot.

Regarding Attenborough, I'm actually surprised he came back. After randomly missing out the last two years, whereas fellow healthy 95+ year olds DVD and Brooks were kept on the list, I thought they just didn't want Attenborough to become a hit.

ISTR that 50 used to be a sort of position of honour.
