BrunoBrimley 86 Posted January 2, 2006 Never cared for most of his films
Banshees Scream 110 Posted January 2, 2006 Was his films spoken in english? The remakes of "King Kong" seemed to be his main time in the sun. His grand daughter is also a chef of the everyday italian food network. I find her very attractive.

Banshees Scream 110 Posted January 2, 2006 Was his films spoken in english? Yes, unlike most of BS's posts......... Ahh the straight up insult out of the blue! Haven't been around lately have you? Are those old horses getting tired? Can they not go on anymore?
Guest Movie buff Posted January 2, 2006 There's a slight problem with his description on the list. Dino De Laurentis never directed a movie in his life, he's a producer not a director.

Canadian Paul 97 Posted January 3, 2006 Just saw Peter Jackson's version of King Kong. Pretty much what you'd expect from it. Anyone seen the 1976 Dino version?
Godot 149 Posted January 3, 2006 Just saw Peter Jackson's version of King Kong. Pretty much what you'd expect from it. Anyone seen the 1976 Dino version? Ages ago. Very unmemorable. Not a patch on the latest. I thought Jackson's version was stretching credibility a bit to think those blokes could run among the dinosaurs as they did. Star Crossed 33 Posted January 6, 2006 Don't want to get a reputation as a pedant, but isn't this chap's name actually Dino De Laurentiis? I hate it when people spell my name wrong. "No no NO, let me spell it for you... C. R.O.S..."
Cowboy Ronnie 78 Posted January 6, 2006 Just saw Peter Jackson's version of King Kong. Pretty much what you'd expect from it. Anyone seen the 1976 Dino version? Ages ago. Very unmemorable. Not a patch on the latest. I thought Jackson's version was stretching credibility a bit to think those blokes could run among the dinosaurs as they did. I saw the DDL King Kong at the cinema in 1976, and actually think it holds up pretty well over time. It did a much better job setting up how (and why) the natives captured the hot chick off the boat than the current film, which spends about 60 seconds on what is probably the most important plot development of the whole movie. Plus I think they showed Jessica Lange's breasts for a second or two.
Godot 149 Posted January 6, 2006 Have forgotten every bit of, including JL's breasts. Why did the natives capture her? Surely it was just as a convenient sacrfice that wasn't one of them.
Tempus Fugit 214 Posted January 22, 2006 Laurentiis is missing an i in this thread title. Poor chap.

Canadian Paul 97 Posted May 5, 2006 MPFC in Gratuitous Raising of Thread From Bottom to top of DL Shocker! Begging the question: Is this guy even ill? I mean, it's a pretty slow thread. It is a bit unfortunate, since I'm a fan of his work. I was a bit worried when I saw this thread bumped up (I'm in no hurry to see him shuffle off), but no, as far as I know, he's not ill, just relatively old for the population and relatively not old for DL. While I appreciate your pity for threads at the bottom of the 2006 Names pile MPFC, there's probably a reason that they're buried down there...
maryportfuncity 10,646 Posted May 5, 2006 They're buried by the cruel indifference of the brainwashed masses living in the fascist dictatorships of the western world, these people have committed no crimes and their lives are as valid as those of anyone else. It is the duty of those of us knowing the pain of marginalisation and mockery - like those of us condemned to live in hopeless backwaters like Canada or Cumbria - to save these threads, imbue them with dignity and life and.... Oh f**k it CP, you're right this thread is sh*t and how the hell it got a two star rating I'm not sure.
pulphack 6 Posted May 6, 2006 there's nothing wrong with a bit of gratuitous posting to boost a thread... is there? anyway, as far as i can see the old bloke's as fit as a fiddle at the moment. he did make some dubious pictures, though... KK only had jessica lange going for it, really. but i'm a purist, and still love the original simply because of the monkey doll. speaking of which, didn't the mechanics on the '76 version go slightly awry? i seem to recall stories of the giant monkey being replaced by rick baker in a gorilla suit. so was Dino baby just an Italian Ed Wood at heart? what i'd really love to see is Queen Kong, with Robin Askwith, that was made the same year. it never got released because Dino baby took out an injunction, and then it just faded away. as far as i know it's never surfaced since, although i did once find the paperback tie-in, which had eight pages of stills. it looked like rula lenska was in it (though that may just have been my eyes), and it also looked dead cheap (no!). the book was execrable as it was written by jim moffatt (aka richard allen of 'skinhead' infamy). The Four Horsemen 26 Posted May 8, 2006 Haven't you heard of Wikipedia, Iain?
Octopus of Odstock 2,197 Posted May 8, 2006 Haven't you heard of Wikipedia, Iain? I'm more surprised by the fact it is someone Iain hasn't heard of, considering all the obscure newscasters, singers & actors he, apparently, has heard of.
maryportfuncity 10,646 Posted May 8, 2006 So this is what happens: Iain goes on Wiki and gets the lowdown on Dino He forecasts Dino's immediate death. Dino lives for ages. I'll reconsider the above if Michael Foot dies soon.
