Kain 0 Posted March 30, 2007 4 points from Liverpool this season... that's enough to have every Liverpool fan sobbing into the Eurpean Cup they retained for winning it five times. In fact looking at Everton's name on that trophy must be a real sickener. Oh no...wait...I don't think it's there.

Octopus of Odstock 2,187 Posted March 30, 2007 isn't harping on about a single win in a league game a bit small club mentality? Absolutely. You'd never find me stooping to such lows. Monoclinic 39 Posted March 30, 2007 I want to know how someone from Penzance ends up supporting Everton; RM are you a (former) glory supporter? ...and OoO, what do you have against the mighty Saints? Okay, we certainly had our nine lives as far as the premiership went. Although quite frankly the survival race is much more exciting that the usual suspects chasing the title, by means of wealth as opposed to passion. Though with the rise of Chelsea I am gutted that Arsechester United is no longer appropriate. Manchelsea United just conjure up the right level of cynicism. Octopus of Odstock 2,187 Posted March 30, 2007 ...and OoO, what do you have against the mighty Saints? Okay, we certainly had our nine lives as far as the premiership went. Same thing as Leeds, except in much smaller quantity. Delusions of grandeur far above their station - all of a sudden - once they were relegated. You remember I said about the Leeds fans being the most snide about us going up? Guess who was 3rd (behind QPR) in the "we should be in the top flight because we're more important than you, even though we weren't good enough" stakes at the end of the season? Birmingham are the same. No-one has a right to be in any division, you have to earn it.... Before the relegation, I think they were everyone's 2nd favourite Premiership team. Again, I also think (relative) locality plays a part in this. Funnily enough though, Southampton's The Dell was the first ground I ever saw, aged 3. Many a trip was made from Odstock to Toys R Us Southampton & I remember seeing this big structure I'd never seen the like of before. Good thing I didn't see Old Trafford or Anfield in 1981 then, as I'd be freaked out for life. I just hate Swansea as they're a bunch of sh*ts, especially Trundle. But then, my grandfather did support Cardiff....

If I should stray then a glory supporter I could be. My home town won the FA cup vase in 2004 You were lucky, my grandfather supported the scum (Portsmouth to those fortunate enough never to have heard of them). Fortunately my father rebelled
Octopus of Odstock 2,187 Posted March 30, 2007 If I should stray then a glory supporter I could be. My home town won the FA cup vase in 2004 Winchester's a lovely place. Shame about their MP. That page mentions a legendary name down our way, Stuart Beavon. That's his son, however, who won it for Didcot. Think he plays in the Conference now. Again, that's the son, not the original. I suppose Salisbury City would count as local rivals to Winchester? As it's where I grew up, I like to see the boys do well. and do well, they're doing.... Looks like a game against Oxford Utd could be in the offing next year. Oh, I thought I'd never live to say that.
To die for 3 Posted March 31, 2007 It's only a bit of good natured banter (i think). Not keen on ground-share. Can you have a shared "spiritual home"? Is it like having a shared church - worship on different days according to your faith? Since when are any football arguments 'friendly banter'? I think your religion analogy is spot on. If you want to start a fight just diss someone's faith.

Octopus of Odstock 2,187 Posted March 31, 2007 Yes, and you STILL should've f*****g beaten Man Utd in the FA Cup!!! Why do you keep harping on about this? We don't care about the FA Cup this season, that's why we put the reserves in for every game. So, if we don't care, why should anyone else? Maybe in two or three years, but not now. Coppell has also gone on record as saying we don't want to be in the UEFA Cup next year, and such an unusual statement might be tantamount for fan backlash. Not at Reading, where we just build & build, step-by-step, the Coppell Way. Where we are now would be a magnificent achievement come May. A long cup run would've damaged all that. Look at the 'success' of Southampton, Millwall and West Ham. They reached the cup final, they lose, the expectation rises, the players get full of themselves, they struggle, they get relegated. Entering the UEFA cup can be a bit of a curse as well...
