my family is from liverpool, but i was born here - efc since day one. not thats its got anything to do with it. and the only Glory Days that ive seen is The FA Cup in 95 and beating Southampton 7-0 in the Prem.

Same thing as Leeds, except in much smaller quantity. Delusions of grandeur far above their station - all of a sudden - once they were relegated. You remember I said about the Leeds fans being the most snide about us going up? Guess who was 3rd (behind QPR) in the "we should be in the top flight because we're more important than you, even though we weren't good enough" stakes at the end of the season? Birmingham are the same. No-one has a right to be in any division, you have to earn it....

 

Before the relegation, I think they were everyone's 2nd favourite Premiership team. Again, I also think (relative) locality plays a part in this.

 

Funnily enough though, Southampton's The Dell was the first ground I ever saw, aged 3. Many a trip was made from Odstock to Toys R Us Southampton & I remember seeing this big structure I'd never seen the like of before. Good thing I didn't see Old Trafford or Anfield in 1981 then, as I'd be freaked out for life.

Definitely right there with people getting a soft spot for the Saints. Many friends who were not from these parts adopted them as their own.

That page mentions a legendary name down our way, Stuart Beavon. That's his son, however, who won it for Didcot. Think he plays in the Conference now. Again, that's the son, not the original.

 

I suppose Salisbury City would count as local rivals to Winchester? As it's where I grew up, I like to see the boys do well. and do well, they're doing....

Why do you keep harping on about this? We don't care about the FA Cup this season, that's why we put the reserves in for every game. So, if we don't care, why should anyone else? Maybe in two or three years, but not now.

 

Coppell has also gone on record as saying we don't want to be in the UEFA Cup next year, and such an unusual statement might be tantamount for fan backlash. Not at Reading, where we just build & build, step-by-step, the Coppell Way. Where we are now would be a magnificent achievement come May.

Good point. Look at the 'success' of Southampton, Millwall and West Ham. They reached the cup final, they lose, the expectation rises, the players get full of themselves, they struggle, they get relegated. Entering the UEFA cup can be a bit of a curse as well...
