Phantom 2,533 Posted July 2, 2006 If he makes it to the end of the year, movie critic Roger Ebert would be a good pick. He's just had emergency surgery and is in a serious condition. Fingers crossed he can last out the year

I've had him on my list for the past two years, and just decided to take him off before my last RDP. I'll be mighty pissed if he goes.

Rotten Ali 600 Posted August 16, 2006 sympathyforthedevil Posted Today, 03:21 PM he's still a good bet because he's very fat. Ok - thanks for the news on Ebert. I've had him down as a stroke victim, fat & recovering from Thyriod cancer. So anyone know how fat he is? 'cus I've got stock in this stocky chap and before this news about his new cancer he had dropped off my top 50 list. Those extra pounds may be vital in pushing him further up my list. Rotten Ali 600 Posted October 12, 2006 No this is really good news - he might be on my list but I'm pulling for the old guy, I really am. Hope he makes a full recovery and has loads more quality time.
Octopus of Odstock 2,194 Posted October 13, 2006 Hmmmm....definitely top 50, possibly DDP... No, I completely disagree. I've taken him off all of my lists for 2007. Guess we'll have to see who's right, eh?

Guess we'll have to see who's right, eh? So be it Octopus of Odstock.... I'm planning two lists - one which is sheer grubby points grabbing for DDP and other, more considered star-wise for the alternative deathlist with a few of the more famous DDPs in the DL.... A battle of the titans.....
Octopus of Odstock 2,194 Posted October 13, 2006 Basically, there were two parts of that statement that made me remove him as an immediate contender:- Dr. Harold Pelzer and Dr. Neil Fine of Northwestern Memorial Hospital, and my personal physician, Dr. Robert Havey, also of Northwestern, assure me I will eventually walk, talk, taste, eat, drink and live, more or less, normally. But it will be a struggle, involving another surgery to complete what began in June. In other words, another surgery is planned - but not just yet. If he was on the way out, the surgery would be scheduled sooner. Also, though it will take a while, the doctors have told him he will recover from the cancer. My take on this is: Is he ill? Currently, yes Will he be able to play in pro-am tennis tournaments? No Is he going to die in the next 14 months? Unlikely. I suppose the only thing is if the surgery to come goes wrong...... But, as I say, on my own head be it. Ultimately, though, Ebert was not likely to be in my top 20 anyway before this announcement.

Likewise - my figures on his condition will be revised - I halve the medical condition eliment and reposition him in the list. Just like a cat is said to have 9 lives it all stays in the mix and adds to say if the person stays in the top 10, 20 or 50. PS He has gone from my 41st position to 67th (out of 681 names)

DevonDeathTrip 2,358 Posted April 3, 2007 Roger Ebert speaks in a recent interview. He can't actually speak because he's had a tracheostomy, but he isn't dead yet, which is the point I'm trying to make.

The Miser 18 Posted January 25, 2008 EBERT RECOVERING FROM SURGERY Chicago Sun-Times critic Roger Ebert underwent surgery Thursday to rectify complications from previous cancer operations that left him without the ability to speak. Reports said today (Friday) that he remains cancer free and quoted his wife Chaz as saying, "We are grateful to everyone for the continued prayers and concern. The surgery went well, and we look forward to giving you more good news about Roger's recovery in days to come."
