This still doesn't explain why he thought uberuebermenschen was an insult. PS if we are nit-picking to the point of worrying over missing umlauts, your exclamation mark is superfluous. Eddy 0 Posted October 10, 2006 Bummer. Just as I thought this was indeed a forum that would spicen up my thoughts on certain matters, something like this happens. Apollo: I am not German, nor do I see the point in raising nationality as an issue. Quite dissapointing as well, I must admit, to see that Apollo's provocative post immediatelyt gets three replies, whereas my posts barely got any retort initially. But perhaps that's just my attention seeking ego kicking in...

Like most others, myself included, you've burned your first post at the stake in a manner which will come back to make you blush in future, should you become a regular DeathLister. The term Übermensch is often confused with the Nazis' Herrenvolk (Master race). Perhaps he's calling us arrogant. Nice bit of counter-pedantry there Mr. Pooka. I stand corected. Godot 149 Posted October 10, 2006 I've been out today. I drove past a bad crash, definite fatalities. Nobody took much notice. I'm thinking that the site is a kind of home for members that also keeps its door ajar and welcomes passers by. Supposing this was my home and I had an open door policy. If people came in through that door would they behave as they wished or would they acknowledge their status as guests? If it was me I think I would show respect for the householder even if I didn't like what I saw. I can always leave. But this is the deathlist and people come in and excercise their right, that we uphold, to say what they feel by metaphorically defacating all over the site. Some like Eddy, bless him, tarry a little longer and try to work out what's going on. But most of them make their foul-mouthed protests and leave. It's a kind of mob hysteria like that which tries to hunt down Frankenstein's monster or like that during the Terror after the French Revolution. It's ugly and it worries me because it exposes the dark underbelly of our society. Thousands of years of evolution and we're still not so far removed from our ape-like ancestors. Death Watch Beatle 41 Posted October 10, 2006 Which, I suspect, is one of the driving forces behind the survival of this forum: it allows people to be provocative on one of the last taboos. Healing for some, and definitely valid in that sense, nothing but provocative for others. But who am I to judge. Have fun. Thanks all for keeping this discussion civil and openminded, I actually enjoyed it a lot more than I had anticipated and would like to apologise for my presumptions on morbidity and intent. Eddy I have thoroughly enjoyed reading your posts - good stuff! Even better stuff - I see you have decided to join us. I hope you enjoy the banter. Thanks all for keeping this discussion civil and openminded, I actually enjoyed it a lot more than I had anticipated and would like to apologise for my presumptions on morbidity and intent. Hello Eddy, and welcome to our forum! You seem like a friendly and intelligent person, just like (most of) us. Sorry I was unable to respond earlier. My feeling on the matter is that death is, in fact, not a taboo subject. I think the statement "death is taboo" has become a stock phrase that people use without thinking, before launching into talking about this "taboo" subject. Death is all around us, people are seeing it and talking about all different kinds of death (private death, public death, etc.) all the time. I mean, let's face it: how many someone's-dying?-quick!-let's-cathch-it-on-film C4 and C5 documentaries have there been over the past couple of years? Admittedly, there might be aspects of death, dying and bereavement which are still taboo-ish, but I think the phrase is outdated. Death was taboo 20 years ago, and death was taboo when Gorer wrote The Pornography of Death but times have changed. That's what I think, anyway. If it's a morbid Eddy(ie)-related avatar you're after, what about this? It seems pretty deathesque to me... Again, welcome!

The_Mole 0 Posted October 10, 2006 I can't believe you allow Manchester United supporters on here AND let them blatantly use the emblem as their avatar. What about all the death and destruction I was expecting Love the site - we used to run a Deathpool at work - one year someone got Mother Teresa and someone else made £100 :/ It was going Fine until the finance director discovered 2 things.... 1) the list existed 2) he was on it.. Loving it.! Mole from Near Manchester but a Chelsa fan
Magere Hein 1,400 Posted October 11, 2006 So, I suppose my next move is finding myself a morbid avatar, right guys? - sN-word Well, it's the custom, but not an obligation. Humourous avatars are also appreciated. Welcome to the monkey house that is DeathList, Eddy. I appreciate your posts. Oh, while you're here: pay no attention to the howler monkeys in the far left corner. They're noisy and throw their sh*t around every now and again, but they do no harm. regards, Hein
